Is watching your 9yr. old daughter shoot her first deer freehand at 50yds, then trailing blood, bone, and chunks of meat for 4 hours only to not find her first deer. My daughter did an awesome job and I was literally sick after not being able to find it for her. I crawled and tracked blood through thickets even on my hands and knees. Still never could find that little doe. Dang is there any worse feeling when it comes to hunting? I've missed big deer and wounded a couple I couldn't find, but nothing made me as sick as not finding hers

Take pride in showing her how much effort you put into trying to find it, and to taking her hunting in the first place

That does suck but it's a life lesson for her I guess. Hunting isn't easy even when you do it perfect.

Thanks for the offer Phil and for the pep talk fellas. I was tickled over how well she did. It was her first time to ever shoot it without a rest and she handled that Tikka 7mm-08 like a champ. She's hooked for sure now. She's already talking bout when we go back so everything will work out. Heck I think I was more disappointed than she was

May have taught her a better lesson the way it worked out. You shoot it, you make an honest and hard fought effort to find it. When I was a kid, blood trailing was my favorite part of it. Still is, knida. Congrats on getting that girl out there and spending some real time with her. It'll pay off, and I aint talking about getting a deer!

And just to add something negative, It obviously wasn't too "good a hit".

Bastard.......
I couldn't believe a doe that small could bleed that much and go anywhere. Dang thing bled like a stuck pig. She hit her a little forward but I have no doubt she killed it. That much blood loss is fatal. Where it decided to be fatal is the problem

I took my Chessie back over there. Damn good duck dog. Not worth a shite at blood trailing deer into thickets He did good til we got to the point that she had circled a couple times and bedded down twice to bleed and rest. He lost her then

Bleeding that much may have been a leg shot. Bone, meat, lot of blood and the skillet still moving=leg. Cousin shot a doe one time. Found what seemed like 5 gallons of liver blood. It was blowing everywhere. Literally a 3 yard wide blood trail for about 75 yards. Found a hand sized piece of liver and not another drop of blood or the deer. Never seen anything like it again.

Hunting a couple of years ago and one of the biggest deer I've ever seen in person comes out. I shoot it, and I knew I hit it because it was hollering. But I tracked it for a couple of hours that night. Got up early the next morning and looked some more, and never found it. One of the worst feelings. Sorry to hear that.

You nailed it. I told my dad today that she had to have hit her leg. Hell there was blood splatter 2 and 3 feet off the main trail. Kinda like a broke leg throwing blood all over. I just never thought she'd bleed like that and survive. I reckon the coyotes gotta eat too

I hit a leg 2 mornings ago.

I had some trouble with my smoke stick not firing and when it finally did I wasn't prepared for the best shot.
Nice doe. Found some blood. Tracked for 2 hours. Never found her.

Sucks. But that afternoon I got a 130 pound nanny. And one of the other guys got a doe that had been shot in the leg previously.
Made me feel a little better that maybe my injured one could still be alive
