While this may seem to be common sensical, it would seem to me that the majority of "thick and thin" type fans are graduates. That love is love of LSU not just LSU football. I contend that the greater % of positigers are actually alums.

I'm not attacking those who aren't alumni, rather just making an observation.

Grads aren't your Wal-Mart apparrel wearing bandwagon fans, clearly, but I assure you many of us are unhappy at this point. We're here through thick and thin but many of us will continue to bitch

i'm gonna say that the vast majority of alums love the university and the football team (all LSU teams for that matter). i think many, if not most non-alums view LSU football as their professional team much like i view the Saints. it can cause a different outlook. both groups are fans and both have a right to their opinion but i think alums are, in general, more tolerant and understand the players are young college students not pro athletes. our players are repping LSU. every year i certainly want to win the NC but i don't curl up in a fetal position in the corner and throw a hissy fit like some do.

GD, that was an absolutely perfect way to put it.

I'm a graduate, and the only LSU fan still flying LSU flags on my car in Franklin, TN following the Bama loss.

But there wasn't anyone flying LSU flags before the loss either.

I think there are some extremely die hard LSU fans that didn't go to LSU. Especially in the South there is the concept of State pride.

I do think grads are more likely to support various other sports

Double alum, former athlete, season ticket holder...I bleed purple and gold with the best of them... But I am DONE with Miles and the future looks abysmal with the current regime

I'm a grad, but the rest of my family are not. Based on a small sampling I will say this, I'm the most rational when it comes to assessing LSU athletics. Discern from that what you will.

i lived in franklin 10 years and i loved to mess with the UT fans. they were good fun and most definately messed with me too. however, i stayed away from bama fans and still do. the reason is that most of the bama fans i have encountered did not go to bama and these fans are absolute assholes. ex bama grads were cool but their bandwagoners are not worth wasting time on.

I think alums are more likely to be blind to the decay that surrounds them. They view any sort of criticism as a personal affront. Hence the circle the wagons and defend Miles at all costs attitude, even if it means destroying LSU in the process. Just my humble opinion.

Your opinion comes from not being invested in anything LSU except the football team's W-L record and some t-shirts.

My take...

Alums- many are fans just because they are alums. When LSU is doing well they act like the greatest fans of LSU but really don't know much about the team/teams. (this is based on the alums that really have no interest in sports unless LSU is doing something special)

Non Alums- are more dedicated fans. While having no loyalty to the university they still bleed purple & gold.

I don't get the alums attitude of being better fans. I like when people like my team. I never really hear this arguement about ND fans. They have a huge fanbase...I imagine 20-1 (prob much higher) non alums to alums.

UT fans around here are almost in hiding. It is surprising how little you see from their fans these days.

But Bama fans. Dear lord, they are EVERYWHERE around here. Biggest bunch of bangwagoners on the planet. They are also the only fan base that has given me any problems. One of them actually left a note on my car before the Bama game. Geez, I can't wait till they lose so their "fans" will go back in to hiding.

MoJeaux--- your opinion has good reason to be humble. Miles isn't close to "destroying LSU" at all. If you want a healthy LSU, consult your Gov, Jindal and legislature, who have done more harm recently to LSU than a 50 game losing streak.

Maybe you and your ilk just don't understand that the reason LSU exists is to be the Flagship of higher education in Louisiana, not merely a vehicle for intercollegiate athletics.
