My longest shot and longest tracking job ever today

Today I shot at a buck at 130 yards and it ran off. Pissed because I missed, I sat there and ate a bannana. While eatin I see a buck and shoot it, boom flop as I'm used to, seven point.
As I approach the seven I see a blood trail headed south. WTF? 20 yards in I see what looks like a lung coughed up and realize it couldn't have been the dead deer because it looked fine before the fatal shot. The trail peters out after 40 yards. I hear a snort and head that way, find blood, a 10 yard blood trail and then nothing.
Since the deer is wounded, I wait 15 minutes. I combed the woods looking for blood, find none, but jump the buck. I can't see it well enough in the brush to shoot. That happened three times in two hours and I finally see him laying.
But he's breathing. ( Choupicsushi's story of buck wrestling ran across my mind at this point.). no interest in doing that shite; I had to finish him off with the rifle. I hope I never do a gut/diaphragm shot again, because tracking a deer 300 yards through a thicket is rough. Boom flops are better!
I ended up with a seven point and a nine point. I'm out of buck tags here in Arkansas. Beaucoup deer here compared to my place in southeast MS.

A guy I hunt with took 3 shots at an Elk running wide open at 280 yards. First shot hit over his head, second hit just in front of him, 3rd broke his neck. When we got to the elk we noticed his ear was ripped by the first shot. 2 out of 3 hits on a dead run. We ranged where he fell and it was 343 yards. I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it.

Elitist arse attitude,
It's a deer hunting club, not a managed trophy farm.

I think everyone should shoot what they're happy with. The only thing that pisses me off is when the guys I hunt with pontificate about letting 'em grow and then turn around and shoot a young 7 pt "they thought was A LOT bigger"....every year. If everyone agrees to shoot whats legal, have at it!!! It's all about fun. I shot one last Saturday that didn't meet criteria because I felt like it.

I'm just messing with ya. I have and will shoot smaller bucks than that. Just couldn't resist taking a shot at ya. If you're happy with the deer then that's all that really matters
