I might get drilled for this, but to me the first Matrix movie. Starts out to be average but the 2nd half was awesome. It's a shame the sequels were so bad.

While I disagree with this now, Hot Fuzz was a prime example when I first watched it. Didn't laugh much during the first 2/3rds, but nearly pissed myself at the glorious over-the-top finale. Still, the final 30 minutes is a lot funnier than the earlier 2/3rds.

American Beauty is a good one. I though the same about Silver Linings Playbook as well.

I actually did as well, but I knew how Wright films worked to where I didn't judge it the first time. The first third of the film is genius on a rewatch. It's constant puns in what happens later in the film. It's ridiculously subtle to where its less foreshadowing and more the punchline, even before they've set it up in the movie itself. It's simply brilliant.

the descent.

i get the slow-burn build-up, and really like the beginning now, but at the time i was bored to death with those annoying chicks gabbing.

Four Rooms (1995)
only because I liked the third act (the kids) best.

The Cabin in the Woods. Though I liked the beginning of the movie, the end was amazingly fun.
