re: Should we? Asik asks for trade

Well he certainly isn't your conventional Center offensively, but he's so effective from at the top of the key, so that part of his game doesn't bother me. I actually like the fact that it forces the opposing Center to come out of the paint to stick him, and leaves the lane more open.

The Judge Reinhold is strong with that one.

Actually it is. They have less leverage because it looks like they are being pressured to trade him. I think the bigger hit on his value though is his contract. If you take him on now, you basically pay $20 million for a $16 million cap hit. The longer it takes to trade him the closer that figure gets to paying $14 million real dollars for an $8 million cap hit. That's like paying a luxury tax to get Asik. Now look at how so many teams seem alergic to paying taxes and you see the number of potential buyers shrink. Fewer buyers = lower price. It's definitely in Houston's interest to sell sooner rather than later on Asik. No reasonable offers refused.

Unless the team is already close to paying the tax. In that case, Asik's contract is actually a cost saver because his value may exceed the cap hit, and the extra salary is less than the tax payment. Plus, you may still be able to shell out some of that case AND get the tax distribution.

It's a fun contract.

If you like your starting center hanging out at the top of the key on offense, then he's your guy.

Sorry y'all. It just trips me out that Smiht hardly ever goes in the paint on offense. It really does.

well, that face-up set shot of his is pretty decent but it's been a lil streaky this year. probably cause he shoots it too damn much. if he was a able to put the ball on the floor, i'ld agree with his time spent at midrange. but he's only a catch and shoot/pass. so i agree that he should spend more time in the paint. cause being 7-0/250 is worth a lot more to the offensive rebounding stats than what we have going on now.

Asik would be awful on the Pelicans squad. He has no offense, and the defensive problem is the scheme, not the players.
So the terrible defense defending the paint has nothing to do with how bad Smith sucks? He cannot play P&R defense and he seems like he cannot understand a player is driving the lane until just before he shoots so that he can hack him while not moving his lead feet to get in position? Smith at the starting 5 has to be the worst in the NBA by far.
