Whats the longest anyone ever stay in the woods trying to find a deer before giving up? 4+ hours for me today. The first one i dont find. Not a good feeling.

Id probably still be out there if i wasnt pressed for time.

Last year I trailed blood for a few hours. It was cold so we hung it up and came back the next morning. Found her walking through the woods with half a face.
Lucky as he'll but it pays to not give up.

3-4 hrs. It sucks not finding one, my little cousin shot this one, first buck ever. Thankfully we found it eventually so he could get a euro mount but he was still pretty bummed

If i don't find blood i will go back to the camp and give it two hours then go back out. I have lost deer from pushing them after a bad shot.

If I run out of blood I will then make big circles until I am sure I won't find it. If I have blood I will follow till it stops or find the deer. I have followed some for a long ways before.

Its a bad feeling losing one. Lost my first buck when i was 11 and didnt find it until squirrel season at the end of deer season.

I'll stay until the blood runs out and ive basically covered a 100yard area around last blood. once i get to the point im just wandering around hoping to stumble up on it i consider leaving

( Only lost 3 deer in 22 years. One bow, one 45-70, and one 20ga buckshot)

Found three drops of blood about 30 yds from where i hit her. Me and a buddy covered about 100 yds in all directions. For the last hour we were just hoping. I hope it was a bad shot and she lives.

No dogs to use. I wish i had one.

I've never really had to do more than about 20 minutes of trailing luckily. One time I shot a doe at 35 yards with my 06 and could only find a few drops of blood and then nothing. Backed out and waited until everyone else was out I their stands and then we scattered. Found her pretty quick and once we did, we saw why there was no blood. The bullet pulled part of the lung through the exit wound and plugged up the hole. Looked like she had a potato hanging off her side

When you shot her, did she mule kick, or just jump like she was startled?

Tracked one for almost 4 hrs last year in the dark. Lost the trail for over and hour but we found it again, we heard her crashing, figured she had a broken leg. Came back the next morning and she was in the same spot, she took off running never to be seen again

Well, until last week it's been many years since it happened. Shot at I believe maybe 8 pt trailing a doe at only 80 yards. He actually lowered his back and figured I shot high, 30-06 150 gr. no blood around where I shot then found 2 drops about 75 yards away. Another 50 yards I found a drop and would find a drop about every 15 ft for about another 75 yards. Then trail went cold and come to find out buddy had just given basset hound away last week. I searched from 9:30 til 3:30 that afternoon and gave up. Sick about it
