Kenny Henderson Playoffs for Next Year

Below was taken from the LHSAA thread but didn't get much traction. Was wondering if this is being promoted publicly or is it speculation? I've heard that each classification may get the opportunity to vote whether to be be combined or remain divided (but not what is stated below).

This is not directly related to this year's playoffs, but has anyone heard about what the LHSAA has in mind for the future?
I'm hearing at Louisiana Sportsline that Henderson's plan is to pretty much combine 2A and 3A "select" schools into one division and revert the split in all other classes.
If true, that may get the support of all schools outside 2A and 3A select but continues the problem of screwing over entire classes just so that they can keep the Evangels and JCs of the state away from butthurt principals in various classes.

Sorry for the ignorance, but I haven't been following this. Now that I see all the threads, my interest has grown.
Can I get a quick summary of all this? Who requested the split, and why?

Last year, non-100-percent-public schools won every classification.
And basically nobody in 2A and 3A can win state if John Curtis and Evangel are in that classification. And nobody wants them in 5A either.
It really is unfair for the public schools that wind up in the JC/ECA classification because they play against each other in the state championship every year.
But the split applies to all schools in all classifications. So there is a "select" 5A classification that has basically 12 teams and they all make the playoffs. But as a lot of people point out, these schools rarely win state. And they don't want to play Curtis either.

Thanks!
So this is driven by just 2A/3A championships? So Catholic doesn't get to get beat by West Monroe because of butthurt in another classification? That seems odd.

Even though they don't win state that often, the schools in this group make up about half of the top 20 schools in 5A.
The thing that messes it up is that because they get pulled from the 5A playoffs, 5A now has some 3-7 garbage teams making the playoffs. The top 4-5 seeds have glorified byes. It isn't like a few years ago when St. Paul's and Dutchtown lost in the first round of the playoffs.

It will likely be four public brackets and three select here in the near future.
I think the best thing to do would just be split 1-3A.

The next logical step will be to not count losses by nonselect to select in the power ratings... Especially if your forced to play in district. I would still count wins though

having 9 state champs is ridiculous
something needs to be done.
I like the idea of 4 public classes and 3 private or just splitting 1-3A into 1 or 2 selects

I have not heard that. I do know that proposals will be made in the classification meetings that each class decide whether they will be select/non select for the playoffs or all play together.

Spirit of Dunson, it went down to a vote in January, and it is BASICALLY, public schools vs. private schools. Private schools are now called "Select Schools" as they have selective admission policies. These DO include a few public magnet schools.
The public schools which have to take all students from a particular attendance zone, traditional public schools are now called "Non-Select Schools."
They are only split for the playoffs in football, only. They still play in mixed districts for regular season.
The "Non-Select" schools are still divided into the five A-AAAAA classifications.
The "Select" school playoffs are now divided into four "divisions" with Division I being the large schools (there are only ten schools : Archbishop Rummel, Archbishop Shaw, Brother Martin, C.E. Byrd, Catholic High of Baton Rouge, Holy Cross, Jesuit, Saint Augustine, Saint Paul and Scotlandville.)
Division II-IV comprise AAAA-A sized private schools.
The principal from Winnfield High School was the spokesperson, driving force for the publics in ensuring they won vote for the split.

Explain Karr and Landry-Walker with your simpleton logic please.

The way it went down has a obamacare ring to it,call em all in and make sure we have the votes. Nancy Pelosi runs winnfield high

so the public schools wanted this and the selects didn't?
was the vote down those lines, or was there some crossover votes (select schools voting for the split, for instance)?

I know a few publics didn't vote for the split. Winnfield owns this because they were supposed to have the greatest team they've had in 30 years and were pissed when Curtis wiped the floor with them. I know because I read the article. Championships aren't handed to you is the lesson she should have learned

Basically whoever wins 2a and 3a nonselect is probably not the true champion...
Posted on 11/13/13 at 10:14 pm to chalmetteowl
I don't think that is one of the proposals...
Posted on 11/13/13 at 11:09 pm to chalmetteowl
Just made me mad the way it was handled even more than the split itself. They didn't even give it chance to try to hash it out.

I get this. Even if you think JC/ECA is unfair, UHigh, PBS, ND, etc. are probably still next in line and they still can't win state. I still think it's better than having the annual 2A John Curtis/Evangel Invitational. At least somebody other than them still gets to win. Most of those tiny North LA schools who get shut out of the Dome do have a point, even if LHSAA still screwed it up.

Karr is allowed to be non-select because they are a public school. They just have open enrolment. Not sure about Landry/Walker, didn't ask.

Why don't the North LA schools just start their own league? They obviously will complain when they play any city team because "they can draw players from all over." I don't see how this argument will ever change for them, so just go start the NLHSAA so we can quit hearing the complaints.
