But since LSU has had proven defenses in the past, and has proven they can coach and develop defensive players, my only option is to assume the talent is not there.

Maybe. Or maybe the game is just passing our defensive coaches by. The SEC isn't really a power football conference anymore. Bama does that, but we've got air raid, spread option, and a whole host of different looks out there now. We don't appear to be adapting to those changes.

We basically need to have first round NFL caliber talent all over our defense to be good, otherwise we give up huge amounts of yards. And even then it's not enough sometimes. People talk about how much talent we lost to the draft last year, but no one mentions how badly our defense got torched at the end of the season. We gave up More than 350 yards in all of our last 4 games, and more than 400 in 3 of those. And those weren't even particularly good teams, outside of Clemson.

With all of that talent on defense that we have supposedly missed so much this year, why were we still so bad?

We'll see if Chavis can get it done next year, but the game is changing and I'm not sure that our coaching staff is keeping up.

I know LSU lost alot in the draft but powerhouse teams dont rebuild they reload right!

LSU lost 8 players on one side of the ball - 7 were underclassmen and 6 of those underclassmen were selected in the first 3 rounds. That is unprecedented and may never happen again in our lifetime. That isn't your garden variety reload project.

Mingo, Montgomery, Logan, and Minter weren't really underclassmen, and not having other players prepared to step in for them is not ok.

teams like South Carolina don't need to out-recruit us....they just need the top of their class to be as good or better than the bottom 2/3 of each of our classes because the top of our recruiting classes usually declare early. Experience counters talent and when you have several 5th year seniors playing against several RS Fresh/Sophs, the game will be closer than most would think. It's the nature of CFB.

Not really.....we just need to be good at the LOS. A good DL helps a subpar secondary and LBs. Same way a good OL helps subpar skill position play on the offensive side of the ball. When both lines are bad, it doesn't matter how good the skill positions are, because 1-2 seconds isn't long enough for WRs to get open, RBs that get hit in the backfield usually don't go anywhere, and when your QB is running for his life, passing is generally inaccurate. Same on the defensive side. When a QB has 5-7 seconds to throw the ball, DBs won't be able to stop the passing game because it's virtually impossible to cover for that long. Also, the opposing running game gets going so you open yourself up to PA passing.

Fix the line play on both sides and LSU will be back in the NC hunt. I believe the young OL that we got in '13 recruiting class are going to prove to be extremely valuable moving forward. I am hopeful for Gilmore, Bain, Neal, and Herron on the DL to add depth and play-making ability after this RS year.

re: LSU needs a win to salvage the season against A&M

I think the ATM and South Carolina wins were big last year. The year before winning at bama was huge. To say miles doesn't have big wins is not appreciating what has been accomplished. There have been some great teams over the years that have lost games. For those who say ATM isn't a big game and important is ignorant. We have the heisman trophy winner coming to town. We are a proud football team and university and have a very good chance of winning this game at home. I expect a similar Game to the Georgia game and I think it will be one for the ages. We bitched two years ago about no offense. Well this is the football you get when you ask for offense. I am looking forward to a great atmosphere and fan support. If you don't believe we can win sell your ticket and save yourself the trouble. This is the biggest recruiting weekend of the year and there is a lot to play for.

Seems simplistic.

1. Recruiting
2. Coaching the young men properly.

Miles is responsible for each step of the process.

Either 1 is inefficient. Or 2 is not being done properly.

Not that difficult.

The key to a win is decent play from front 4. If they don't show up , we lose. Find that pass rusher by 11-23
