Let me preface by say, that I heard this brought up on the radio and have not really determined how I feel on the subject and wanted to get some opinions.

Should there be a requirement that a pro athlete must have a bachelors degree to compete in pro sports?

The argument was made that in pretty much every profession nowadays outside of pro sports (where the participants are making millions) that a person must have a college degree to succeed or move up the ladder.

I understand that this is not the case for athletes but the host was saying that these guys make so much money that they should be held to a high standard with education being at the forefront and the public would be absolutely shocked at how incompetent a good portion of these millionaires are.

What do y'all think?

There's already enough people who are getting college degrees that really don't deserve to be in college. They just get pushed through the system.

This would be horrible

Because what you learn in school probably applies to those jobs.

There is no reason for them to get a college degree in order to play football.

They have "studied" football all their lives.

Going to practice is their "education". Participating in games is their "training".

This is exactly my line of thinking the more I ponder it. You go through grade school and high school to learn the necessities; college is about your career which in these guys case, they do not need.

They should get a college degree like billionaire Bill Gates doesn't have? You do realize this America? People have the right to make a living. Most of these guys are majoring in their sport when they are in college. They aren't going to be heart surgeons, rocket scientists, etc. when they are done playing ball. This is their best shot to make a lot or money in our free market system. Don't take that away with stupid rules and regulations.
