Was taking to a buddy of mine and he brought up a good point. That's the first time we ran JC outside the tackles. I know it already happened and it is what it is but you guys agree with the call there?

In order to beat teams you probably shouldn't, you need to run a couple plays you never have before. It's up to the players to not frick it up on the field.

I thought it was a good call if it was intentional. Everybody expected JC to go b/w the tackles.
Unfortunately their defensive player made a great play.

The thing is if he doesn't fumble the play works. When you are a fullback and there is one dback in front of you. You tuck the ball and run him over don't try to run around him like Copeland was trying to do.

Not like it was JC's first time carrying the ball. He's probably one of the strongest guys on the team too. You have to like the call, it was a scamper for a TD, and the defense probably doesn't sell out up the middle if Hill is in the backfield.

The defender unintentionally made a great play, due to Copeland's ill-advised stiff-arm attempt. Had he simply tucked the ball away, his momentum would have been sufficient to carry both him and the defender into the endzone. The defender wasn't even meeting head-on, but came in high and from the side. There was no chance that he was going to be stopped short from that contact.

Definitely wasn't designed like that. I don't like the idea of JC bouncing out like that. Just dive up the middle and drive. He makes it, it's awesome, but bouncing out for JC is risky, and not something he should have been doing.

If 78 follows through on his block, JC scores.

What? If he doesn't fumble, he scores. 78's block didn't keep JC from scoring.

Hadn't touched the ball in a month (less than 40 carries in his career)...playing Bama...just give it to Hill. His fault for fumbling, but why mess around with a guy who is rusty against Bama?

Yup.
Even Hilliard @ FB for that type of play.

It's not like he was racing the guy to the pylon.

quote:would have like the call if Hill or Hilliard lined up at FB. JC has a fumbling history. Hell it wasnt much of a hit that actually knocked the ball out (ie a RB used to carrying the ball does NOT fumble on that hit).

If JC had not fumbled the ball, I can almost guarantee that there would not be one post on this entire message board stating they think it was a risky call because JC might be rusty. There would be several stating it was a good/smart call but not one saying it was risky.

Doubtful. There are threads every time he gets carries in a game.

I don't like JC carrying the ball at all. If you remember, he actually fumbled on the last drive last year against Alabama. Luckily a pre-snap penalty was called on us. No reason he shouldn't have solid ball security as big and strong as he is.
