On my quest to find a restaurant for an upcoming proposal and family dinner, I've run across Anunciation. Anybody like or dislike the place? Prices seem good and good ambience.

I've narrowed it to Annunciation, Nola or Tableau.

Been to all three. I think NOLA is your best bet. Best food and a great location.

Very interesting list. How many people will be at this proposal/family dinner?

IMHO, none of those would be my choices for something like that.

Consider it removed. But I'm curious as to why you don't like it.

Ten. But I'm paying so in an older post I said I want to avoid places that would be $100 a person. I wanted to stay near the Ritz, but I gave up on that idea. I would appreciate your suggestions.

10 would be a little tight in Annunciation. IMO. It's not a big place.

They may be able to handle it but would probably need to make some extra accomodations.

ETA: Since you're more open to different areas. What about checking out Coquette? It's not cheap but if you limit alcohol you can get out for under $100 a head.

Don't they have an upstairs room?

I found the place quite mediocre, regardless. Weird list.

Well I imagine there will be people of every age and you will have at least one picky eater in the group. But correct me if I am wrong.

$100 a person with booze so long as you staying out of about 4 or 5 restaurants is doable almost anywhere in town. So it will just depend on what you would like to eat.

Around the Ritz, there is Iris, Herbsaint, Domenica, MiLa (both Domenica and MiLa have private spaces - Domenica a room, MiLa an area they can cordoned off). Marti's just reopened and it is one of the prettiest dining rooms in town (old Peristyle). Fairly certain you could go there with great results.

Annunciation is the food of Clancy's without the ambiance, I'd go to Emeril's over NOLA - which I think you could do for around $100 a person.

It sounds like you want to stay downtown, so I'd also consider La Boca if you have a family that likes steaks.

ETA: Personally, I'd go to Galatoire's. Its not as expensive as people make it out to be, the food is generally good, and it has a great atmosphere for celebrating. Shoot, sounds like you are a lawyer, so ask them for a house account. You can pay it off over a few months.

You said you don't want to spend $100 a person. How much do you want to spend?

The upstairs room at Coquette would be pretty perfect.

Still recommend Le Foret though.

It is good, for the style of food it is, which as we all know does not appeal to your tastes.

Now, personally, I enjoy a souffle potato, well made drinks, baked oysters, shrimp remoulade, turtle soup, and a thick filet with bernaise from time to time.

ETA: OP, assuming you will be celebrating, there are really only a few restaurants that are good at accommodating larger groups, celebrating momentous occasions, and serving excellent food. And for under $100 a person, Galatoire's is your best bet.

Since your now looking outside of the area adjacent to the hotel, might want to think about Mariza in the Bywater area. They were just named one of the top 10 new restaurants in the US by Esquire. Great place and a nice, festive, atmosphere. Here's a link to their menu: LINK /

if doing outside the area - maybe redemption?

never really see it mentioned on here but did a birthday dinner with a group about this size and it was good. i imagine it would appeal to a large cross section with it being her family.... and its in a old church. just tossing it out there.

Tried getting reservations upstairs at Coquette first week of December. They would not give us a table upstairs unless we reserve the whole room upstairs.
