Mike McKenzie came off the street 12 weeks into the '09 season and had an interception against the Patriots. Surely Ed Reed could contribute somehow.

Sounds like a Payton kind of guy

Look we will see soon enough if the coaches are worried about the position.
But Reed didn't get cut by two teams in less than 12 months for too much mouth but instead for to little plays made.

Some douche team like the Patriots or Jets will probably pick him up.

Vacarro just had his second concussion in as many weeks. Harper has been out for some time. Who knows with jenkins.

If we sign him, I'll be happy.

If we don't, the coaches saw something they didn't like

I think the big concern is that he is a coach killer of sorts. He constantly tried undermining harbaugh and apparently, the moment things weren't rosy in houston, did the same. I think the character concerns are greater than the injury concerns.

There's that, and most of our remaining schedule is against run heavy teams.

Yeah, we'll see soon enough, but if they sign him that means he can play. So I'll be excited.

I'm not entirely sure about houston, but harbaugh 100% wanted him out because he was actively trying to turn the locker room against him.

Another thing: I don't really remember any of our safeties having a particularly bad game against the pass. Bush was had some bad angles against the Jets in run support, but he was spot on against the Cowboys

This signing would make sense for depth. But I think anyone waiting to see the second coming of Sharper maybe be let down. Sharper had more left in the tank and wasnt dealing with nagging injuries. But for depth and mentoring Kenny V. HELL YEAH!!!

Well he seems to be old, a locker room cancer, a coach killer and horrible against the pass so there is that!

Even if we sign him for depth...at 400K I think it could be a good signing. If it isn't, he doesnt' play, is cut, etc...

Regardless of how our backups have performed, what if one of them go down this week?

My gut reaction is that this could be a great signing, but there is alot we don't know

1. Reed's character concerns vs. his health
2. Timeline for our 3 safeties to come back

When in his career was he considered a cancer?
Ed is horrible vs the pass
The guy is one of the best at getting ints.

They won a Super Bowl so it must have not been that bad.

Jenkins and Harper practiced last week. Harper was full all week I believe. I expect Harper to play. Jenkins and Harper were warming up Sunday night. I think both are close to playing.

I guess so. add to the fact nobody in our locker room would let someone challenge payton, payton wouldn't tolerate it. I don't think it is a concern if we sign him.

But bernard pollard and ed reed were a problem for harbaugh and that was the biggest reason neither of them were brought back.

Risk vs. Reward

He's not a prize FA coming to a team with a coach on the hot seat. We have a solid locker room with an established coach and that isn't going to change if we pick him up.

Best case: He contributes and holds us over until we get our guys healthy.
Worst case: He acts up and we cut his arse with the quickness, all while the Texans pick up the majority of the bill.
