What Bama fans might not be seeing is that Saban is bigger than the school. They know that they are winning because of Saban. He won a title at LSU. He was them at Alabama. He would win them at any major program he went to. Bama is not winning because of its school, or its fans or facilities. It is solely because of Saban. When he leaves, it will be a void like never before.

He is only at Alabama because he was mediocre in the NFL. If he had any amount of success in the NFL, he would not be at Alabama.

I'm sure when Saban decides to do something else with his life, there will be a lull in Bama football. If I were him, I'd be wanting to go out on top, not like Bryant in his last years.

Why do I like Nick Saban? You'd have to be a Bama fan living through the dark early 2000's continuous coaching search when all the media was laughing about how no one wanted to be the head coach at Bama. CNS saw an opportunity to sow some seeds in a very fertile environment.

what if CLM retires in 7 years?

This is reasonable, given that he is 60 years old this year. I expect 7-10 more years as well. Once Les Miles retires, he will go down as the greatest LSU in history, with 3 national championships in 4 appearances. The next coach in line will inherit a top 3 elite program, and maintain that success for years to come.

educate me on why bama has imminent mediocrity ahead, while we will taste consistent riches?

I'm not disagreeing with you; I just don't understand your argument. You sound like you're just waiting for Saban's retirement as if it will unlock wild success for LSU

Law of averages, my friend. Once Bama soon loses it's superior coaching, it will dwindle away as it did post Bear Bryant. Their fans will fight it at first, but eventually will enter a state of content, reminiscing on the short-lived accomplishments. This bundle of recent championships will be their comfort blanket through times of irrelevance. LSU will sustain through years of consistency with a quality coach who truly cares about his players beyond LSU football.

All things considered, Miles has done well filling in Saban's shoes...

What he is saying is why leave out the potential of Alabama hiring a Miles-type coach after Saban leaves, as opposed to Ron zook.

2. Our offensive line has been poor when playing quality competition. Again, must be addressed in recruiting.

Fire Studwara and get some new life in that O-Line and get a coach whose in shape that does have a potbelly/beer gut hanging out. What parent would want that coming into your living room recruting your kid and probably ask for a doughnut or something while he's there.

We have had a couple of weak recruiting classes which have killed the depth we are known for. Over the past two seasons, when a game changer has left, there hasn't been one to fill his shoes

Examples?

Trying to think of recent examples..

CB: PP7 left and and next year Brooks and Claiborne kept the depth. After Brooks and Mo, Simon was still around.

S: Brandon Taylor leaves and Eric Reid is there. Tyrann thrown in the mix somewhere.

Obviously DB hasnt been an issue in the past.

LB: Kelvin Shep leaves, ryan baker is there. Baker leaves, Minter is there.

RB: Ridley leaves, Ware and Ford step in. They leave and Hill is ready.

DL: Nevis leaves, Levingston (probably doesnt count if we're talking game changer), but Brockers is still there. He leaves but Mingo, Sam, Edwards and Logan are still on the line.

WR: Toliver leaves, Randle is there. Randle leaves and Landry and OBJ step up.

You said recent years so those are just some since 2011.

Now, THIS YEAR, nobody really stepped up on the defense. I can not argue that. But you said the past two season, and that just isnt true at all. Look at how good our defenses were the past two seasons and that will defunk the bad recruiting argument. Eight players from the D leave for the draft but I guess non of them ever stepped up.

Simon and Montgomery did not play well last year, don't fool yourself.

And you are naming only starters. Starters do not equal depth.

Have you noticed how our defensive line play tails off as the game goes on? Its because we can't just swap in a second stringer and get the same quality of play as the first.

1. Recruit more QBs like Mett and go away from dual threat guys.

2. Find those unsung LBs we are now realizing were vital, while also finding the next 'face' of the LSU D like a Lavalais, TM7, PP7, Dorsey, Jones, Landry.

And that's exactly my point. You are assuming that Saban's successor will tank. I don't think so.

Chicken, while I agree that Bama's run will eventually come to an end, I think a lot of people's issues with Les and LSU's current predicament isn't just about Bama's success but seeing LSU teams that are undisciplined and not showing improvement as the season has gone on, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Honestly, Les has to get rid of Raymond in my opinion. It's not a talent issue at DB right now. It isn't as great as before, but his coaching is just bad. DBs have all regressed with him at the helm.

2nd thing is to make the tough decision with Chavis. I think he's done and while he's been a great DC in his time, it's just up.

3rd is to not screw up so badly on recruiting. They've recruited poorly by not stocking up at positions across the board instead of recruiting in spurts and bunches at positions. Our depth suffered because LSU waits until 1 year to recruit 10 LBers, and takes 1 DL.

That is horrible management and has to be fixed.

Also, fire Ensminger and replace him with a defensive coach because God knows we've ignored using our TEs for the last 3 years.

i remember reading this back in the day and thinking---i hope miles learned from his time at OkSt. thinking he didn't now.

I do know that we went from being 13-1 to 10-3 and now 7-3 through 10 games of this season, with tough games still to come. That's a decline, albeit not as drastic as some chicken littles like to proclaim. But it is a decline and it is critical that Les rights the ship next season.

#1 - coaching personnel improvements with Brick, Raymond, and Stud out...sorry Corey:(

#2 - Shoring up recruiting, specifically lineman and backers.

#3 - Obsessive coaching of good tackling technique

Who was a game changer last year??? The starting unit was certainly better as a whole but there was no defensive superstar.
