Mettenberger - By the Numbers

For the Season:
167 completions /out of 254 attempts (65.7 %)
2733 yards
20 Touchdowns
7 interceptions
Sacked 18 times
SEC Play
106 completions/ out of 161 attempts (65.8 %)
1608 Yards
8 Touchdowns
5 Interceptions
Sacked 16 times
OOC PLAY
61 completions/ out of 93 attempts (65.5 %)
1125 yards
12 Touchdowns
2 Interceptions
Sacked 2 times
Not Trying to prove or say anything other than just state stats. If someone wants to dig a little deeper and see where Mett's stats rank for seasons all time, feel free to do so.
Just thought it was interesting to see the sack numbers and TD/INT ratios between OOC and SEC play
No doubt, Mett has been a warrior for us and has allowed us to have a relatively worry-free mindset for a position that in the last half decade has been anything but that.
I hope he finishes strong. The next two teams have really weak defenses so I believe he will.

i really wish we had another yr with him. sucks that he never really got a signature win here. he's improved leaps and bounds over his jr yr. and i like the way he competes.
played his arse off vs UGA
though he himself dug the hole vs ole miss, he fought back hard in that game.

20 Touchdowns
Only the fifth QB in LSU history to throw for 20 TDs in a season.

And if he's healthy, given who we have on the slate in terms of defenses, he could catch Mauck/Russell's 29 TD's.
Very proud of that guy this year.

No. 8 has been an OK quarterback on an OK team. When his two years are up, he'll have lost at least six games, and it remains to be seen whether he'll have a signature win to his credit. He's not the only element of the program that deserves a harsh assessment, but he's the QB — it comes with the territory.

I think 26 TDS and 9 INTS total is what we should be looking at
Very good season

He'll be second all time in passing yards in a season with a possibility of breaking that school record. And a very real chance at breaking the school record for TDs and completion percentage in a season.
He's one of the best modern day QBs to come from LSU.

Well, he's come in, and for the most part, he's played extremely well, and we haven't delivered him the defense we should have.
He's done way more than we could have ever asked for a QB in the past 6 years, it just so happens to be coupled with a year that our defense is a huge let down. By LSU standards, he's above average, and has played as well as anyone could have asked any other year.
If you had looked at his stats now, before the season, and not anything else, you'd absolutely take it!

Agreed,
I'd like to see less INT's in conference play but stuff happens
One less INT vs ole miss and I truly believe we win that game
One clean punt taken in by Odell and I think we had Georgia too
That's football though.. game of inches sometimes

Usually, we can count on the defense to win or even out the TO margin, that has been an inability this year. D not creating TOs amplifies it when we turn it over.

No signature win? He's beaten three top 10 teams as a starter at LSU.
And he has been very good this year, way better than just OK. Not his fault the defense sucks.

Last year Zach was an OK QB. They year he has been good. He has only had one bad game. You can't put the UGA or Bama losses on him. It is a TEAM sport.
It is kind of ironic that when we finally get the QB we always wanted, our defense takes a nose dive.

He has certainly played much better and I think he is one of the few QB's coming out of college this year that could still grow measurably - setting him up well for the NFL.
However, I'm not sure he ever developed much of a relationship with the O Line and it doesn't seem as if he's been a strong leader/motivator. Maybe this is due to his "privacy box" he had last year.
Even if we see a downgrade in ability next year, I hope our next QB emerges as a quality leader.

What Top 10 teams are you referring to besides South Carolina last year? Auburn and A&M, teams that weren't Top 10 when we played them?
Regardless ... Even if you take the stance that he hasn't flat-out lost us any games (Ole Miss?), he hasn't pulled any victories out of that rocket arm of his, either. Good overall numbers, aided in some part by soft non-conference games (including TCU). And I don't get why some fans are willing to just scrap last year's numbers. He's a two-year starter, each season carries the same weight. He was brutal last season, good this year. That comes out to OK.

Is it too hard for you to write out Mettenberger, Zach, Mett or even ZM. Goodness gracious

Mettenberger, Zach, Mett, ZM. Sorry. By any name, he's been average. That work for you?

With 20 TDs, he's in company with Russell, Mauck, Flynn, and Hodson. That's definitely not bad company to be in.

If you think 20+ TDs, 3,000+ yard, 65+ completion percentage season is average, you are crazy.
