Pretty interesting stuff.

quote:

Hurd haggled a little, knowing the price went down the more kilos he ordered. “I’ll be at 50 [kilos] a week soon, because they go like that,” he said. “I just don’t have—I just never had nobody that could give me more than four a week.”

quote:

One day earlier Hurd had withdrawn $55,000 in cash from two banks in Dallas, most of which he gave to V in exchange for roughly 20 pounds of the best of the best. The order included a couple pounds each of Hurd’s personal favorites: Louis XIII (aka Louie, his daily smoke, which he says allowed him to function and even “practice better and study film better”) and Mr. Nice Guy (a purplish hybrid that Hurd and his teammates found eased the headaches common among NFL players).

quote:

Hurd spent the summer of 2009 working out, smoking joints the size of his middle finger, playing Call of Duty and chain-watching documentaries on TV, all the while weaning himself off the hydrocodone pills and increasing his weed intake to Marleyan levels. By the time he regained full health, he had fallen out of love with the video games and movies. Only the weed remained.

quote:

“Lujan stated that the vehicle and all the contents found within belonged to Sam Hurd,” read the agents’ report. “Lujan was adamant that Hurd is a player for the Dallas Cowboys and that Hurd routinely leaves large amounts of currency lying around his vehicles.” The agents downloaded the contents of Toby’s phone, confiscated the $88,000 and allowed him to drive away, vowing to keep an eye and an ear on him. Audio surveillance began the next day.

Hurd was mentored by Terrell Owens as an undrafted free agent. he took him under his wing and made him a NFL wide reciever

Sounds like Sam's being railroaded by the Feds just like all these terrorists that are baited and tricked into cooperating with a scheme that was bogus from the jump.

Seems he's guilty of the weed and Morton's stuff, but how is he getting life?

The other charges sound bogus, with his cousin and the other guy.

Long ready, but very interesting. Crazy how being in the NFL just isn't enough for some guys. Life in prison is probably harsh for Hurd, but damn, he sure wasn't too cautious in his dealings.

Very interesting to think about the appeal of drug dealing for guys like Hurd. I mean you'll eventually trip up and then it's over. Is being a Godfather for 15 years worth 20 years in prison afterward? Fast living can't be that great.

George Jung (Blow) gets out of prison next November. He's been locked up for 30 years. Crazy.

His sentencing was supposed to start at 130 CT today, anyone have any news on it? Just did a quick search on the google machine and didn't see any results from it.

ETA: The article was a great read, kinda feel like he is getting railroaded by all his cohorts.

He only got 15 years..not bad considering what he was facing. Life in prison for a first time offender seemed a bit extreme

I agree, I realize he was talking about moving 50 kilos a week, but he was only ever caught with 1

Exactly, they didn't have any previous evidence of cocaine distribution. Just the one set up deal and testimony from a bunch of convicted felons

It would be a travesty had he gotten life. Even 15 is too much IMO.

Great news for him considering what he faced. Pretty shitty though that the Feds are able to throw in "relevant conduct" for sentencing that adds years to your time. Glad to see the judge look past that and was fair to him.

15 years for a first offender for that crime seems extremely extreme.

Damn. 15 years for being a name guy that a narc could gloss his resume with and not having a shred of proof of actually dealing any cocaine.
