Let's take a closer look.

(13-1) Against teams we should have definitely beat. Some were too close for comfort.

North Texas
Washington
Idaho
Auburn 12-10(Worst Auburn team in forever)
Towson
Mississippi State
Ole Miss 41-35 (At home way more talent)
Arkansas 20-13 (Worst Arkansas team in a while)
TCU 37-27 (Worst TCU team in a while)
UAB
Kent State
Mississippi State
Ole Miss (LOST)
Furman

(4-4) Against teams that we should/could have beat and were just as talented than them if not more talented.

Florida (LOST)
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Alabama(LOST)
Clemson (LOST)
Auburn
Georgia (LOST)
Florida

(0-1) Against teams that were more talented

Alabama (LOST)

People want to talk about how much Les Miles wins and how we are in a good position to be LSU. Honestly LSU football isn't in a good position. The past two years we are .500 against teams that a powerhouse shouldn't be .500 against. I'm not saying we should be undefeated in those games, but we damn sure should have beaten Alabama(2012) and Clemson. Probably should have beaten Florida(2012) and UGA too. Being 0-1 against a more talented Alabama isn't that big of a deal to me. The problem with it though is LSU should not be less talented than Alabama. Use your excuses of early draft entrees all you want. Alabama has many go every single year and doesn't lose. Why is that? Because they recruit the way LSU should be recruiting. Hell if you go back to 2011 it took Tyrann Mathieu's heroics to win against UGA and Arkansas. If it wasn't for him we could probably add two more losses to that season.

In short terms, Miles stacks up his winning record against inferior opponents and is below average against other equal opponents for a head coach at LSU. I give some blame to the coordinators too.

The players and the football program deserve better.

Auburn went 3-9 last year.
Arkansas has been terrible 2 straight years.
Florida won't make a bowl this year.
Tennessee has gone through 6 years of turmoil.
Georgia will have lost at least 4 games in 4 of the last 5 years after this season, including a losing season in 2010.
South Carolina has been great the last couple seasons, but they lost at least 5 games every year from 2005-2010.

LSU has had one "bad year" in 10 seasons. They won 8 games and destroyed a team in their bowl.

Even Florida has had multiple 5-loss seasons in that stretch. But still, if you want to put them in tier 2 with LSU, that's certainly understandable. But over the past 10-11 years, no one else is even remotely close to LSU in terms of consistency.

So yeah, we're spoiled. Spoiled by the success Miles has sustained. We're not Alabama. But we're damn good.

I would think on paper we should be .500 against teams that are equally talented to us, and we should have lost the one game we played against a team more talented than us, and that we should be pretty damn close to 1.000 against teams we're more talented than.

We're doing fine. I'd like to do better, and I think we'll get back to it in time, but we're doing fine.
