1st year CPA salary

Anyone know the starting salary for a 1st year CPA in LA? Small firm

I've tried looking at salary websites but it seems most of those are for accountants.

TIA

A CPA is an accountant

But many accountants aren't CPAs

Depends on how much experience you have. Right out of college will be $44k-$50k range.

My wife started out as a staff accountant (didn't have her cpa)and her starting salary was around $38,000.

CPA should be 50k+

Small accounting firm is significantly different than B4.

Depending on a variety of factors, you are looking anywhere from 40-47 for a small firm.

In my experience, CPA license doesn't factor too much into starting salary. It comes more in to play once you start working and are up for promotions. Without a CPA, you can only progress so far in a public accounting firm before you hit a ceiling.

Small firm --- Experience > CPA

40k-45k would be the range to expect.

correct

junior staff = junior staff

CPA comes into play at senior in charge or manager levels

Also passing all 4 parts of the CPA does not necessarily mean you have the CPA yet.

Correct. With Louisiana, you still need one year* of accounting experience under a licensed CPA from what I remember. You also need to fill out a buttload of forms and take an ethics class.

By the way, I just fist pumped in my cubicle, I will have the year requirement already done when I finish passing the exam!

Yes, I know there's a one year requirement. At a small CPA firm, right out of college you'll probably make $42k-$48k if you have passed zero parts of CPA. If you have passed all or some, you may make a little more in the range of $44k-$50k. The bigger differences in pay come after you have worked a couple of years.

Yep, and get specialized training.

I'm lucky, I have experience and training in multiple odd taxes. I do Motor Fuel Excise mostly, with a decent amount of Tobacco, Telecommunications, Beer, Alcohol, Hazardous Waste, and other odd/end taxes.

Honestly, I'm hoping to skip the CPA firm route and go straight to industry, does anyone have experience with that? I'm building contacts and such.
