I checked the NCAA website for statistics, and it reports Ellis has played in 5 games for Texas A&M with no passes broken up or intercepted. Wasn't he supposed to make an immediate impact? He even got the cute nickname Ellis Island for his supposed cover skills. He has had less of an impact for Texas A&M than Tre'Davious White or Rashard Robinson have had for LSU. This despite Texas A&M's defense being considerably worse then LSU's.

Shouldn't Ellis' limited playing time for a crappy defense raise questions about Texas A&M's commitment to early playing time for freshmen? Or is it just a case of Ellis not being ready for college football? How does this get sold to Noil and Willis?

His stupid arse uncle is melting down about it on Texas A&Ms 247 site

quote:

We blew it when the DC elected to be stuck on stupid by not playing Noel in the Alabama game. Why would a 5-star Blue Chip Recruit elect to go 6-7 hours from home to ride the pine as a Fish for a FBS Tier 3 Defense that won't ultimately land him in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft?

GW Junior wants a "meal ticket" in 3 to 5 years and he's NOT convinced that #AggieLand can put his son in the proper position to satisfy his "Appetite".

Who cares? Willis definitely isn't going to TAMU and I'm pretty sure Speedy isn't either.

What recruiting site had Ellis as a 5* recruit?

They said something about A&M playing 20 something freshmen in the CBS game last week. Hell, Darian Claiborne is starting for them at LB. A&M has had a good nickelback in that Hurd kid for a few years, too. It's a bit of a stretch to use Ellis to question their commitment to early playing time for freshmen.

That being said, those above are right. Neither Willis or Speedy are going to A&M.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a troll but I'm going to give an honest answer. Our pass defense is not considerably worse than LSU's. Our run defense is gawdawful. We have no pass rush but our corners are actually pretty good.

Ellis is the 2nd team nickel. He backs up Senior Toney Hurd and most expect him to start there next year. He's only recently starting seeing regular minutes but he's one of 12 true freshman in our defensive 2-deep so I think questioning A&M's commitment to early playing time for freshmen may not be the best angle to take.

LSU fans aren't taking that angle, Ellis's uncle is. If anything our side thinks that's the root of his interest in aTm, but LSU has also proven that talent gets on the field early. The Ellis camp has always been pretty vocal, but it's a little ironic that they would accuse GWIII's dad of steering his recruitment.

ETA: Well no LSU fan except OP is saying that. Darion is a beast.

The person who wrote those quotes seems very angry and overly involved in A&Ms business.

Darian Claiborne... I wish we could of kept him. It was a shame we had so many linebackers last year and let him get away. Wish him the best!

he's just a damn good football player. I wish he was bigger and could really be a MLB long term because if he was he could be an impact player there. But unfortunately I see him getting run over by guys like Hill in 2 weeks. He'll be great as soon as we find a real MLB and can move him to Will.

Yeah.. I think he is as 220 which is big but when Jeremy Hill is coming at you at 235, you could be right. It will be a fun game though. Let the best team. Geaux Tigers!

Claiborne has looked downright awful when I have seen him.

Don't think we really missed anything there.

I'm not sure what he's listed at but I think he's actually closer to 200. He's very small for a Mike. And it doesn't help that our WLB runs 208. Size is one of the biggest reasons we can't stop power runs. Even when we schematically stop it, they move the chains for 2-3 more yards quite often.

It's the price you pay for recruiting Big 12 type LBers and having massive attrition at the position - we only had 2 LBers on the roster return from 2012. Our coaches have been trying to increase the "profile" of our LBers but it's difficult because almost everyone in the Texas HS ranks is running a spread these days so big HS LBers are very rare. Losing Whitley out of our back yard to Bama is crushing.
