Thinking about upgrading my binoculars from the Bushnell pair I've had for years. What would be a nice mid-range pair for hunting/boating?

I have a pair of Pentax 10x42. Not sure if that is considered mid range but I got them on sale and they have been great. Owned for about 8 years or so, very durable and clear.

I'm in the same positions I have read some good reviews about the Nikon 8x42 Monarch 5 series I'm trying to stay under $300.00.

I have 10x42 and they are great, but I have sometimes wished I would of bought the 12x50's, friend has them and even though they are a little heavy they are amazing

No they not heavy but even the smallest Binos hanging around your neck for long will be annoying. They are basically weightless when all the weight is on your shoulders instead of neck. Don't get em for all I care but im speaking from experience, they are worth the small amount of money they cost

10x is a little heavy for boating. Too hard to make the image still. 7x is probably the sweet spot, unless you're on a ship.

If you are young, you can use a 7x50 for use at night. Great light gathering.

If you are past 40, your pupils don't open enough to use all the light, so you should get a 7x35, 7x30, maybe 8x40.

Other than that, you generally get what you pay for.
