I think it's pretty obvious by now that Miles' philosophy on punishment for fumbles is to be benched.

I know there are people who actually defend this philosophy.

I HOPE HOPE HOPE that Miles at least explains this philosophy to his players. Maybe he has a good reason for it.

However, coming from someone who played running back and fumbled a good bit of times, nothing made me as hungry to get back on the field and redeem myself more than losing a fumble. I ALWAYS protected the ball better and played better overall after fumbling.

If my coached benched me after a fumble, I would be pissed at him, and honestly, it would probably just hurt my confidence even more. I would just sit there all night and think about the fumble and how I screwed my team over without a chance to get back in there and redeem myself.

Benched for a series? Sure. The entire game? Dumb and most likely counterproductive for the team as a whole.

Talk about frustrating.

TL;DR version: Miles philosophy on fumbling punishment is retarded.

How do you know chief didnt sit him?

Same for copeland, frank wilsons in charge of the rb rotation.

Not that it really matters, but im just saying.

Welter gets run over. You can't just bench someone for that. You have to be a fullback who fumbles and not allowed to block again, or an RB who fumbles but recovers it, or get flagged on a questionable PI. Welter doesn't get penalized and he doesn't fumble, he only gives up consistent yardage. Not bench-able. Besides he's too smart to take off the field. Mensa Linebacker.

I still think it should be the head coach who decides this in the end.

"John, they're consistently going after Mills, put Robinson back in."

Same with rb's.

Robinson was the 1 player who has stepped up on defense this season.

Apparently Miles is ok with CBs who gets burned by a TE, but not ok with probably our best defensive player to date committing a penalty every CB in the world commits at some point.

Just makes no sense. Did no good, let him play and redeem himself.

jalen collins finally got benched. looks like eugene has been benched. id like to think martin is on the verge.

mills? if he isn't getting roasted in coverage he is belittling his teammates on the field as if its all on them? its okay though, stay in the game!

welter? at this point i am willing to get a train run on me by a group of starved, angry silverback gorillas with chainsaw penises if it means i never have to see 31 play a meaningful snap ever again. i almost cried yesterday when i realized he still has eligibility left.

So, we give up only 179 passing and one play was 52 yards, so we give up about 125 yards the whole game. That was "going after #28 all night"? In fact, we only gave up about 75 yards passing in the 2nd half. It wasn't the pass defense, it was the run defense that killed us. Not defending the move, but just corrected the premise.

Robinson gets called for a questionable pass interference

Not really questionable. Robinson had a hand full of the receiver's jersey for more than just a nanosecond; we'd have screamed for PI if the roles were reversed.

i get that we didn't give a ton of overall passing yardage...but if you give up 5 & 6 yards on third down for a converted first down which continues their drive, its just as much of a game killer for us as well as a momentum builder for them.

And it's even worse when they know EXACTLY who and where to go after when they're in need of a first down.

It handcuffs you as a Defense.

After the fumble the CBS camera went to Miles who appeared to be speaking emphatically to a coach who looked to be Frank Wilson. Copeland doesn't see the field the rest of the way.

The Bama defender made a great play. Copeland had the ball in the correct arm but they guy just got it perfectly on the swipe. At least they could have continued to use him for blocking. What is sad is that this comes after ESPN Gameday did that that great story on Copeland.

I just want to know why other players are not held to the same standard. Let's face it, you could argue that fumbles against Florida last year and Georgia this year were just as devastating to the outcome of those games - if not more since those came in 2nd halves of close games. I don't remember anyone getting benched for those plays.

Robinson, right or wrong, is the 3rd CB. He plays when we are in nickel and that's all.

He wasn't benched, we just didn't play much nickel.

Copeland was benched for fumbling.

Kwon was benched for blowing the assignment in the fake.

Martin was benched for being out of position on the TE touchdown.

Robinson was not benched.
