Starting Defensive Tackles Next Year?

Assuming we lose Freak and Ego, who are the projected starters?
Posted on 11/10/13 at 8:08 pm to Mr. Curious
its evident that they need to stay.

For all the shite those two have taken from our idiotic fan base, they will be very sorely missed next year.
They have played an insane percentage of plays for big guys because obviously the guys behind them just aren't ready to contribute against SEC OLs.
Root hard for Freak and Ego to come back or things will be truly awful next year.

They aint going pro. Ego has leveled off and aj doesn't standout either. IMO

Quentin Thomas and guys who are freshmen now, I guess. Tashawn Bower and Christian LaCouture?

Its been the issue I've been most concerned about for the past two years. We have no one proven. Thomas has played some and looks average at best but could improve. Lacouture looks physically ready and I think could be a solid guy with another year or two. Mickys been in the system long enough and has not played so I think he won't ever see the field. We have Bain, Gilmore and DE prospect from memphis who I hope will be ready to play. Although there's been a lot of talk that these guys have a ways to go. Need to go after all of the uncommitted monster DT prospects this year. Would be almost guaranteed PT.

They might if they grade out well in an NFL combine and don't think they will develop much at LSU.

Ego had 7 tackles last night. He's been one of the few bright spots on D this year.

Of course Bower and Neal have impressed early on and hopefully they will be ready next year. Hunter needs to add weight. Allen and Rasco are both juniors right? Lots of unproven guys at DT and likely very little depth if Freak and Ego go - scary. Could be worse than this year. Freak and Ego are great but they aren't ready yet. First full year of being a starter and I think they can be dominant with another year and depth to give them rest

Both of them will test extremely well.
How they grade out on tape according to the actual scouts, not the rantards, will decide if they go 2nd round or 5th.
I personally think Freak goes late 2nd and Ego doesnt go past 3rd and could even surprise and go ahead of Freak in the second. I think his tape will be a bit more impressive.

It has more to do with the DT depth in draft. Does anyone have a clue about draft depth?

Are there any juco beasts that we are recruiting?

Bower's a DE and will remain a DE. Herron may bulk up to DT, and Gilmore and Bain may figure into the mix.

How about Ronald Martin and Corey Thompson. They have the speed to both be a good fit at defensive tackle.

It's actually a really weak field at DT from what I can see.
Nix from ND and the guy from Minnesota are the only real first round guys, and they're back half first rounders IMO.
I assume Jernigan will go pro too, but after that there isn't much.
There's a reason Freak has been ranked so high by Kiper and McShay types. There just isn't much out there.
Freak and Ego would both be called in the top half of the draft.

Gilmore and Bain will absolutely figure in, out of necessity if nothing else.
Thomas will start, and he's been very disappointing after the positive reports I heard from camp. I expected much more from him and I was completely off base.
Lacouture just doesn't strike me as being very physical when he's out there. Rarely see him in the backfield.
I agree with the other poster that said Mickey will likely never be a contributor seeing as how he's been in the program so long and can't even sniff PT despite a huge need for depth at the position this year. He just looks like a miss.
If Gilmore and Bain are not ready next year, we are in for a nightmare.
As to the other poster, I haven't heard of any JUCO recruits we're after at DT, but it would sure be nice if one popped up at some point, although I know our numbers are getting limited.
Make no mistake, Freak and Ego will get the respect they deserve when they're gone and we see how bad things can really get.
They've been the two best players on our D easily IMO.
With awful LB play, no impact players at DE, spotty coverage at corner, and little safety help, I'd love to see two college DTs that could have done any better than those two guys have despite playing almost every snap through a nine game opening stretch and then against the #1 team on the road with their bulldozing attack.
Here's to Freak and Ego

Agreed.
They both need to come back. They would both be gone if they declare but they are both the kind of players that could double their draft stock if they stuck around.

I thought Gilmore switched to oline.
