LSU, the NFL farm team

Here's my take, and it's more subtle than anti-Miles or pro-Miles. And if you can't read more than 2 sentences at a sitting, move on.
1. A coach with a huge multi-year contract maybe loses his fire, his grit. What's the incentive? What makes you hungry? Not always, but this is a POTENTIALLY deadly, soul-numbing scenario.
2. Our Tigers do just fine in the pros, by some accountings I've seen, as well or better even than Bama, at least on being drafted (after which it's up to you). If you watch the pro game at all, you know an individual can get there from anywhere, so LSU doesn't have to win for an individual to win.
3. Thus, recruiting doesn't take a hit. Kids know they can get there from here, they can get there through Miles.
4. Games become individual highlight reels. Beautiful, wasted runs like OBJr's return last night. Wasted. But makes a great individual highlight (absolutely no offense to Beckham).
5. What's lost? Playing for a team, a school, a tradition, Death Valley, being a Tiger. What's lost is playing to win and win it all. Winning no longer matters, or doesn't matter much.
6. What about Saban/Bama you say? Well, maybe he's got some hold on their soul, like if you mess up my Process, you won't be on the field. Do I think his kids are playing for Bama? No. They too are playing for the NFL but somehow he's convinced them they have to go through him to get there.
7. Epilogue: why shouldn't it be this way in sports, it long ago became the case for the professoriate. Bring 'em in green, coach 'em up, polish out the rough spots, and then off they go to the public ivy leagues like UT-Austin, UGA, UNC, etc. We're a farm team for faculty, and a farm team for football.
Thus endeth the lesson. Discuss.

This is an interesting take and in many ways is right on target. Sending our players to the pros is a great thing, but many of the ones who have been taking the plunge are going out too early and will not make it in the NFL. For these players another year at LSU might have made some difference, both for us and for themselves. Look at the LSU players who have turned pro early and who are either languishing on the bench or practice squads or, worse, out of the professional game altogether.
There is no doubt that Landry and Beckham are ready to play on Sundays, and it is hard to make a case for having them stay here another year. But we have a lot of players who are thinking about taking the plunge in the draft, and with just a few exceptions they are not ready. That was the case last year, when we lost so many to the NFL but have several who are not likely to have a meaningful pro career, and it is the case this year as well.

it certainly would be helpful to have some of them still in the game, here.

There are at least 4-5 coaches in the SEC who are just flat out much better coaches than Miles, and now there are a few much better recruiters.
Last night was a program killer. We're going to lose out on the state's big time recruits this year after having lost a few last year. They trend is set. The good players leave early, the replacements aren't as good, overall quality decreases.

That's the point: recruiting barely registers a hit because as long as a kid can generate a highlight reel, he's golden. Winning doesn't really have any value-added in this equation.
Fans are left to watch "big plays" because there's little chance of putting together a complete game or a complete season. Look at how players quit last night and in other games.
Seriously, I'm afraid they quit just enough against Ar-kansas to produce one of those ridiculous late season losses. Not saying it will happen, but some strange stuff has taken place vs. Ark.
