CNN Throws In Towel moves away from news

LINK

quote:

CNN appears to be throwing in the towel, at least when it comes to being a cable news channel. With its ratings and reputation sinking, CNN announced Friday that the third-place network will be investing heavily in everything except serious news-gathering. This new focus will be towards "a variety of unscripted formats, including other travel shows, and 'immersive' nonfiction programs." This also includes documentary films like "Blackfish."

CNN still says that its "bread and butter" will always be breaking news. But it is in that arena that the network has been hit hardest. Once upon at time, even when Fox News dominated in the ratings, CNN would still come in first when big news broke. America was still turning to CNN when it mattered.

Today, Fox News not only dominates the everyday ratings but retains that domination during big news events, such as the Boston Marathon bombing and this week's off-year elections. Moreover, during big news, CNN is now losing to low-rated MSNBC.

How long till the Obama administration bails them out with a huge subsidy so their main propaganda machine can keep running?

I guess its hard to report the truth... Especially when reporting on the dear leader.

In all seriousness though... the CNN brand I would say carries a lot of "news" weight in itself and they still can't beat MSNBC. nuts!!!

Non-fiction? lol....

The whole problem with CNN is that their brand of "non-fiction" is usually total fiction.

Obama should pick up Candy Crowley's grocery tab. It's the least he can do. He can even invite her to the White House, and they can watch that internet video that caused the Benghazi tragedy.

So, more propaganda in disguise? They are just moving it from a news desk to a narrator?

CNN is still the go-to network for breaking international news. Whenever something happens in some far off place (eg. Mumbai terrorist attacks, Indian Ocean Tsunami, etc), CNN immediately goes to air with on-the-scene reporters, while the other networks report from the studio for a day or two until they can get someone to the scene.

re: CNN Throws In Towel moves away from news

I posted the following on October 26th:

"I have seen a couple of posts on this board about CNN moving toward the center in 2013 but I challenge that perception. I monitor all three major news networks daily and have observed that especially since mid-September when the continuing resolution and the debt limit ceiling came to the front burner, I sometimes have to check to see if I am listening to CNN or MSNBC. "

"CNN is a far cry from unbiased news presentation.

By the way, CNN is so deep in the toilet the past six months that even MSNBC is routinely kicking them to the curb in the ratings. The only time CNN still "shines" somewhat is when hard news is breaking and Wolf Blitzer, who seems to actually reside in the studio, is going live while the MSNBC crew remains oblivious to what's going on in the real world."

So, basically CNN is going to become PBS 2.0? That's mostly what PBS does; they show"documentaries" which mostly focus on glorifying women and minorities.

Geez, women and minorities. Let me see. What one group does that leave out?

It'll come to me later, and I'll edit this post.

I am still fascinated that Fox is biased because just about all of its infotainment type shows lean conservative but cnn is the unbiased alternative when almost all of its infotainment shows lean left.
