Spongebob creates political controversy

LINK

quote:

Just in case the Left and the Right didn't have enough things to disagree about, now they're snarling at each other over an episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants." In next Monday's show, SpongeBob's boss fires him from his fast-food job at the Krusty Krab after realizing that he can "save a whole nickel" if he lets the title sponge go. A bummed SpongeBob is resistant when his BFF Patrick tries to show him the benefits of "glorious unemployment," but immediately after they eat a free all-you-can-eat meal, SpongeBob decides he needs to get back to work. "Unemployment may be fun for you, but I need to get a job," he says.

And that's the line that started a firestorm that went well beyond the borders of Bikini Bottom. "Instead of mooching off social services, SpongeBob sets out to return to the workforce," Heather Nauert said on "Fox and Friends." Media Matters immediately responded. "Right-wing media use SpongeBob SquarePants' firing to attack social safety net," one headline on the site read. "Part of SpongeBob's long-running success has been its ability to tap into the zeitgeist while still being really funny for our audience," Russell Hicks of Nickelodeon told the Hollywood Reporter. "As always … SpongeBob's eternal optimism prevails, which is always a great message for everyone."

What normal people see as a normal response to losing a job are getting the left's jimmies russelled.

I misspoke. Plankton is a lot better than Rex. He owns a business and is constantly trying very hard to improve it.

By any means necessary.

Geesh...people have too much time on their hands.

Mr. Krabbs being a cheapskate is a long-running gag. Patrick has always been a layabout. His laziness and lack of brain cells are also a long-running gag.
