Major flaws do exist, just like any urban area. But to say that the city isn't a unique place in the American landscape is flat out wrong.

Yep. "Decadence and decay" is a great description. It's insane how different areas 3 blocks from each other can be Uptown/Garden District. The FQ itself could be described as being both simultaneously, with drunken assholes, thugs, and gutter punks hanging around outside a 200 year old, $3m+ home.

Nationally NO has is a mysterious place and most people love it because of its laid back attitude.. Its a great place to visit for most but living there is a different story. Look at Rex...He loves it...Progressive liberals will always love this city no matter what Rex says about his 12 days of Slavery.....Its his model of utopia....And I love New Orleans...Some of my best childhood memories are there....Its because of the people...not the social engineering that politicians are trying to construct

It's not terrible but the day to day extortion from city hall and the crime make make me not want to live here. Additionally, the only businesses are law firms, hospitals, restaurants, and hotels so yeah, there are some high paying jobs and a shite ton of low paying shite jobs.

This place is the best it's been since I've been here.
And to the ladytiger person, if you can't grasp the "decay and elegance" reference, the problem is on your end. It really is.
As far as Texas is concerned, Houston and Dallas have some things going for them, of course because of their sheer size and capital investment. By I can't imagine wanting to actually live in either one. Austin is pretty nice, though.
The perpetual N.O. haters that show up from time to time sound pretty petulant and silly.

I suspect you'll keep repeating this mantra forever regardless of the changing realities in demographics, economic development, infrastructure improvement and improvements in city government. You have a narrative that you refuse to abandon.
ETA: What happened? Did the work permit for your next dry wall job get turned down and you're back to carpenter's helper?

You can keep arguing about demographics, even though I didn't say one word about it. No one is moving their family to NOLA. NOLA isn't a step up from most places. And if I were some kind of dry wall person, then what? Would that make my points somehow unvalid? As it stands I work for a company that was looking to move to a new city, and New Orleans wasn't even considered for exactly the reasons I gave you. Nothing has changed with the crime at all. There are no real businesses here. So enjoy your low quality of life and when you pull your head out of your arse, and wonder why everyone is gone, we went somewhere that doesn't boast about being last in every category and first in crime.
New Orleans is charming because it had culture, it was great. It still has a lot going for it, but people don't want to move here and I certainly don't mind moving elsewhere.

And the real estate market is heating up. Houses are listing and going under contract with multiple offers in days. Prices in the Marigny and Irish Channel are reaching historic highs. What facts do you have when you say no families are moving to New Orleans? What facts do you have when you say there are no "real" businesses in New Orleans? The answer is quite simply you don't. You seem to let facts be colored by your own agenda and feelings.
