Thinking has nothing to do with it, because if it did the numbers would make this type of post impossible.

By any standards in any time and in any sport, Miles' accomplishments here at LSU would clearly include him in any discussion of "damn strong coach."

The man has a team that averages 10 wins a season, wins one NC, and played for another. All because of a few close losses each year people think he is an idiot. Is he the best coach in the country? Maybe not, but he is pretty darn good.

nah, its not that. Its when he opens his mouth he confirms that he is, in fact, not the sharpest knife. I like when he does funny post-game interviews and makes us forget that he just botched a game LSU should have won though!

So if Miles were to be hired in 2000, do you believe he would be as successful as he is today? I would say no. Here is the deal sunshine. When you get handed the keys to the fastest latest greatest car, you're gonna win most races. You're acting as if Nick Saban wouldn't do the same thing and you're right. He would do more! Les Miles didn't build anything here bro, it was built. Bobby Bowden started from scratch and built FSU from the ground up. Eventually after he got up in age, FSU fell off a little, but that happens. So please don't insult Bobby Bowden by comparing him and CLM. arse clown

I wouldn't confuse one man's regional diction and personal verbiage with his intelligence. Considering half this board is a bunch of Yat's and Coonasses, I find it laughable that fans are embarrassed by the way Miles speaks.

I'm not talking about the way he speaks. I'm talking about the things he actually says. Like he forgot to call timeout against Ole Miss because he was too busy setting up for the FG block. If only there were a way to momentarily pause the game to give us more time to set up for the FG block....

A normal fan would hold the next coach up against the accomplishments of the former...you'd like them to meet and surpass him, assuming he was solid. In any measurable way, Miles has done that at LSU...despite following the first coach in decades that helped bring LSU a national title and national prestige again.

And yet, it isn't enough.

Instead, Miles is not held up and compared to Nick Saban while at LSU. He's compared to this non-existent Saban at LSU based on the misconceptions LSU fans have that had Saban stayed at LSU he'd have had the same success he's currently having at BAMA. All this despite the fact that Saban's teams only lost less than 3 games a season one time. All this despite the fact that we all know BAMA exists in an entirely different SEC than we do. An SEC with favorable schedules, that gets do-overs, that has the conference office set up in its home state, etc. We seem to forget that simply being "Nick Saban" was not enough to get the SEC to even pay attention to his bitching about having to play the Friday after Thanksgiving. We also seem to forget that once BAMA's coach, the minute they switched the Iron Bowl to that day, he bitched and it immediately was moved back and LSU was thrown onto Friday again.

If Miles was being compared to BAMA's coach whileat BAMA, then I could respect that. Miles isn't being compared to Saban as BAMA's coach. If he was, he'd lose but the argument would be close. He's being compared to a fantasy, and in that battle he's never EVER had a shot.

It's who he loses to and how he loses! It's his clock management skills! It's underperforming against lesser competition, Tennessee 2010 classic example of poor clock management and underperforming against lesser competition. It's running option right a million times against Bama 1/9/12, emberassing the crap out of the program on the biggest stage. It's letting Lee stand on the sideline with his helmet on warming up the whole 2nd half of that game, believing he was gonna get a fair opportunity to play because JJ was a cluster frick in that game. This and much more is why half the fan base doesn't like him.

To be fair, Bowden was probably FSU's second HC. The first one, last name Petersen, took FSU to the inaugural Peach Bowl to play a certain team from Baton Rouge. And that certain team (LSU) beat Petersen's FSU in it. Bowden came to FSU later and built on what was already a decent foundation.

Aside from Sebastian, Les has had much better kickers than Bowden.

8 bowl appearances in twenty nine years! Yep they were a juggernaut!
