Lucasfilm has announced the new date for the debut of the next Star Wars trilogy, and despite some script rewriting that is currently underway, the movie will not be pushed to 2016.

Fans can expect to revisit the galaxy far, far away on Dec. 18, 2015.

That will make it the first Star Wars film to open around the Christmas holiday — or “Life Day” as it’s known among the Wookiees

You guys are some silly geeses.

If Disney/Lucasfilm officially announces this as the release date, it's the release date.

Yay 2015

Just hope it doesn't affect the quality of the movie....no cast announcements have been confirmed other than Ford, Hamill, Fisher. Please no crap actors like Hayden Christensen or crap characters like Jar Jar Binks.

First one not to be a May release? And I would like some confirmation on story. The New Jedi Order is such a great series but can you condense it into three movies and properly explain Jacen, Jaina, Anakin, Mara Jade, Corran Horn, Kyle Katarn, Kyp Durron etc?

That is why Lucas made the grave mistake of not doing 789 when he did the prequels. Prequels using different actors of course could be done literally at any time.

Here is how I would adapt the NJO to three movies. Make Jaina Solo the main character with the older actors (other than Luke and Wedge) primarily background actors

Movie 7 - Vector Prime. Yuuzhan Vong invasion starts. New Republic does nothing originally. Luke and the NJO debate the course of action to take again the Vong (personified in this debate between Kyp Durron and Corran Horn). Film ends with the Vong dropping the moon on Coruscant (instead of Sendipal) killing Chewbacca.

Movie 8 - Rebel Dream

Wedge, Luke, Han, Leia, Lando, Jaina, and the NJO plot the Insiders movement in order to sacrifice the New Republic because of their appeasement of the Vong invasion. Battle of Borealias/Jaina's temptations of the Dark Side.

Movie 9 - Rebel Stand

Conclusion of the Vong War. Establishment of the Galactic Alliance (which is the remnant of the new republic, the Hapans, the imperial remnant, as one goverment). Jacen going missing is the big mystery/cliffhanger if they ever want to do 10 11 12.

You basically have to do the Yuuzhan Vong, they are the coolest part of the Expanded Universe. After all it took Lucas the better part of 20 years to come up with the prequel story and it still sucked. After all they started Episode 1 in 1994 in earnest. The EU is much better storywise than anything Lucas can come up with. Especially since it will supposedly be written produced and filmed in two years. Much easier to adapt already existing and good material.

The EU does not exist for purposes of the new movies. They will have no effect whatsoever.

not necessarily true, not all of the EU will exist but you can't just ignore it all especially since its more than just fan fiction - Action figures/Video games etc were made and they influenced the story already seen in the movies. You aren't going to create new characters when you already have licensed the Solo twins for 20 years.

I know better than to argue with the EU superfans but Disney/Lucasfilms have said it multiple times and it has been linked here more than once. The EU will not a factor in 7,8 & 9.

This isn't a judgement on the merits of the EU in any way.

They can ignore it and they will.

Now proceed to act like what I said isn't a fact.

Star Wars related question: anybody seen the Despecialized Editions? I'm looking into grabbing a copy, curious how they stand up vs the official releases on Blu Ray.

They will "ignore" what they want but to have a story written, produced, filmed, and out in two years without adapting existing work means it will suck. The Vong are a better storyline than anything they can come up with.

They won't be constrained by the EU ie whatever they write if it contradicts EU sources then the movies take precedence that is how it currently is. But too many concepts started in the EU by people other than Lucas that have actually leeched into the movies to the point to cut out 20 years of hard work would be completely counter productive. Especially if they want a movie out before the next President takes office.

I like this. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the movies centered around Jacen's decent to the dark side. I guess you could save that for another trilogy
