Just for fun, let's brainstorm about what would happen if characters from both shows came together to form one storyline, how would everything play out?
My cast of characters:
Law Enforcement:
Jimmy McNulty(W)
Bunk Moreland(W)
Cedric Daniels(W)
Lester Freamon(W)
Bunny Colvin(W)
Rawls(W)
Hank Schrader(BB)
Steve Gomez(BB)
George Merkert(BB Hank's Boss)
Criminals:
Omar Little(W)
Avon Barksdale(W)
Stringer Bell(W)
Wee-Bey(W)
Marlo(W)
Chris Partlow(W)
Snoop Pearson(W)
Prop Joe(W)
Walter White(BB)
Jesse Pinkman(BB)
Gus Fring(BB)
Mike Ehrmantraut(BB)
Lawyers:
Maurice Levy
Saul Goodman
I think the defining theme of this storyline, would be of a power struggle. Most interestingly, the power struggle would not only apply to the cops vs criminals or the different crews beefing, but also between the law enforcement agencies themselves....Police Department vs DEA. The PD would be more focused on "the bodies" as opposed to the DEA with their focus being drugs.
The power struggle between the crews would pretty hardcore. Walter & Jesse vs Gus & Mike vs Avon, Stringer & Wee-Bey vs Marlo, Partlow & Snoop, with Prop Joe being a supplier. Of course, Omar would still do his thing, no matter who's in control. Interestingly enough, I think the storyline between Gus & Prop Joe would be amazing. Who controls distribution? The turf wars would get bloody and ugly. I think the main focus would be to find out who this Heisenberg guy is, and how to stop him. Would alliances be formed?
The lawyer angle would be pretty straightforward, with each lawyer representing their respective clients. Would love to see Levy & Goodman face off somehow, I just can't see them working together.
For our purposes, we'll just say all this takes place somewhere between Albuquerque & Baltimore, and they're all dealing in Meth.
Anyway, how do you see this playing out? Who wins? The Wire crew has the clear upper hand doing police work, but BB has more money and resources with the DEA. Feel free to add your own characters you think would make a valuable contribution. I'm sure I'm leaving some stuff out, so feel free to fill in anything I've missed.
Lastly, do you think McNulty bangs Wendy? No doubt in my mind.

What about a meeting between Gail Boetticher (BB) and Thomas Klebanow (The Wire)?

Meeting? They're one in the same. Klebanow moonlights as a meth cook.
Or he finds out his long lost twin brother is a meth cook. What a story!
