Great player when he was healthy, but like Will Smith, no longer necessary for the success of the team. Sad to see them go, but it's time for both

Bye vilma thanks for being a huge distraction and costing us a roster spot the past 2 years.

What the hell man! Your posts suck. Thanks for being a downer on this board and costing Chicken bandwidth on this board your last 1,000 posts.

he went out winning a superbowl,
and he was money in that game. CSP loves Vilma, and I'm sure he was pulling for him to get healthy.

Vilma from day 1 as a Saint was a class act and a helluva leader that this team needed. He was HUGE in XLIV and will always be 1 of my favorite Saints. Father time and injuries have caught up to 51 it happens to the best of 'em. Vilma

When I think about it you're probably right - it was more Payton and Loomis to blame for keeping him around after he was done.

I'd love to see him stick around as a defensive assistant.

While we're at it, he probably couldn't do a worse job as our O-line coach.

Dude came from Nowhere, Haiti and made it all the way to the top in the NFL. A class act, vital piece of our SB, and model leader for our team. I hope this was "one last hoorah" for a man that's going to retire a Saint.

I also personally think it speaks a lot as to what kind of coach and man Sean Payton is when he does things like this for players. Two other examples are bringing back Deuce as an honorary captain and giving a SB ring to Gleason. He just gets how important players like that are not only to the team and fans, but to this community. I really hope JV stays on as some sort of coach or even front office personal.

to JV, a true Saint.

A true cornerstone in the franchise getting out of the mire of decades of failure. On my 2009 Championship year Mt. Rushmore. Thanks for the memories dude!

Another whose full value is magnified by intelligent play and leadership in the locker room. Was proud to wear his jersey to games many times.

One last game...

12 last snaps, 1 tackle

In retrospect you prolly can see what's going through his mind...
