We are SEC fans & coming in from So Cal to watch the LSU v. Arkansas game. Of course we will root for the home team. We are staying in downtown Baton Rouge. Any recommendations for bars and restaurants we should go to? Also, on game day where is the best place to tailgate? Looking forward to that southern hospitality! Geaux Tigers.

I would definitely go to Chimes on game day. It is not the best in terms of food, but it has great atmosphere, large beer on tap selection and is right off campus so you can park for the day and eat and drink there.

Trick Question? On game day, the whole campus is a giant tailgate.

I'm coming in town too for the game and my boyfriend reminded me that it is Thanksgiving the night before the game. I researched and found that the only restaurant open that night is Ruffinos on Highland. I made reservations last week for a big party. Gonna hit up the Chimes before the game.

You have several good upscale food options in downtown in Stroube's, IPO and Zolia Bistro. The Chimes is an LSU landmark - good bar food and drinks. The Perkins Rd Overpass area has some good options as well for more casual dining - Digiulio's, Chelsea's, Georges. There's also a Galatoire's and Acme Oyster House close by that are ok.

Gameday tailgating...I would start with beers at the Chimes then migrate from there to the stadium stopping at random places and introducing yourselves especially the SoCal part. If you're a USC fan, keep that to yourself. 95% of the people you meet will want to feed you alcohol and food. Beware the shot ski.

The Chimes/Serranos location just outside of campus is the place to start the debauchery to ensue. The campus starts across the street, and the whole thing is a party, you will not leave with an empty belly and a lack of adult beverages provided for lubrication. Downtown hotel take a taxi to campus for a few bucks to and fro for the day.

It is just my husband & I. We are in our mid 30's with no kids & each Thanksgiving we pick a good rivalry type game to go to. So far been to Ohio St v. Michigan, Alabama v. Auburn, S. Carolina v. Clemson & Ole Miss v. Miss St. We still like to party a bit & have a good time. So far tailgating in the South has not disappointed!

Like said, Chimes is a great place to start. Then just walk around campus and check out the party. Bulldog is another good post-game location or the night before.

I hate to tell you this, but that game is usually tame for LSU standards. The tailgating is not as intense nor is the atmosphere. A lot of people go out of town for Thanksgiving or don't make it to the tailgates due to Thanksgiving obligations. Plus, the game is a 1:30 kickoff.

Anyways not to sound like a broken record, but I would definitely go to The Chimes. It's my favorite LSU bar and it's right on the edge of the North gate campus. The food is pretty good for bar food and they have a decent beer selection. After that, you can walk next door for a drink at The Varsity or you can walk through the campus and stop at several tailgates. I would head through The Quad and then stop off by the Indian Mounds and the tailgates on Fieldhouse Drive.

Tailgating sucks on that game unless it's a top 10 matchup, which it isn't. Go to Chimes for beer/food/warmth.

Walk around a bit close to the stadium - the fact that it won't be jammed that day can be good if you're from out of town. Y'all ought to have more of a chance to see campus than normal.

I'll just repeat what everyone else has said.
Chimes/Serrano's/The Varsity first. Walk through campus and visit. People will feed you and give you drinks no doubt. You can even work your way to Walk On's for the game (which is on the opposite side of campus from where you started), or head back to the Chimes/Varsity/Serrano's location.
Like also stated, it's not usually LSU's best tailgating turn out. But then again, even those days are better than some major university's best turn outs.

NOT FUNNY, just a display of your idiocy and having something against giving real advice to a stranger. Go back to your kennel and stay there until your timeout is over.
