You look at a list of the top offenses in college football the last two years and it's littered with teams running the Air Raid or some variation of it.

When Leach ran it at Tech people were saying it was a gimmick and would be shut down by great defenses (which is stupid cause that could be true about every offense).

What are your opinions on it? It seems to be all the rage at the moment with the success of Briles and Sumlin.

How many championships have a team running the Air Raid won compared to teams that win with a more traditional, pro-style offense?

Please...according to most people who use that phrase - by their definition - every offensive philosophy or system in the history of football is a gimmick...

Except for turning around under center and handing it off to your fullback straight up the gut as he screams to the D to alert them that he has the ball.

Lol, people had accepted the Air Raid long before Leach arrived at Tech.

Anyone who thinks the Air Raid is a gimmick should stop watching football. Does it have it's positives and negatives? Absolutely. All systems do, but to say it's some gimmick that can be "solved" or something ridiculous like that is moronic.

I think the key evolution of the Air Raid is that guys like Briles and Sumlin are incorporating balance into it so it's not as one dimensional as Leach's version.

Barry Sanders had some great seasons rushing out of the Run n Shoot.

Mumme and Leach. And had they not got their hand caught in the cookie jar they may have been pretty successful with it. It got us an Outback Bowl bid which was better than anything we had done in quite awhile.

As far as the question about teams not winning championships with the Air Raid, it seems the majority of teams that have run it consistently in the past have been teams trying to capitalize lesser talent. IMO it seems less to do with the scheme and more to do with the talent.

It's easier to find kids that can run short, easy routes than it is to find kids that can man cover.

I'm not saying it's new. I know Mumme ran it at Kentucky.

I'm pointing out the relatively recent proliferation and renewed popularity of the offense.
