Not exactly an OB topic, but figure I might get better info here. Anybody had a wood burning stove installed in a house (after it was completed)? If so is it fairly simple, or is it a pretty involved process? Just thinking about putting one in a breakfast room, but not too thrilled about cutting a hole in the ceiling and such. Trying to get some background info before I decide whether to call a contractor and explore further.

If the room has an exterior wall you can go out the wall with the pipe. Most of the ones ive seen are through-wall.

You'll need a fire block or you'll void insurance. I've got bricks behind and under mine. Not a big deal, but my bf is a roofing contractor and he did the flashing, caulking, etc around chimney.

You're not bolstering your case here.

The Franklin stove I had in bedroom cracked so I replaced it with a smaller stove with blower. Once it gets going it will run you out of the room, so be cognizant of that when selecting your stove.

I once had a pellet stove installed in the basement of my rancher (in PA). Not much to it. Cut a hole through the siding and ran a double walled pipe above the eave.

The wood stove I had in another house had brick behind it.

I put one in my house when I lived in North La. Took a few hours with some help, it's definitely a two or more man operation. I've got a pellet stove in this house and had it installed, which was included with the purchase of the unit.
