Read an article that said Fass refuses to stump for the Oscar which may hurt him.

Honestly, I'll give it a chance, but I'm so sick and tired of hollywood poor mouthing black people. If it has substance, then I'll be glad I watched it. If it's that BS the life of bees, then frick it.

It's a memorable experience watching this movie. The fact that it happened locally in Cenla adds to the amazing story. I honestly think other movies don't have a chance, could be a clean sweep for Movie, lead actor, best supporting actor and actress.

Kinda feel bad for McConaughey, looks like he has an award winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club.

Bump

Went to see it this morning. It was incredible. It wasn't flawless, but I'd give it a 9.7/10

It's very heavy, and the lead actor who's name I won't even attempt was great in the role. Definitely an oscar winning performance.

Question: I was confused, so the circus guys did sell him or they didn't?

Great movie . Highly recommend , but read an annotated/updated ,with corroborating facts, version of the book.

As someone who read the book years ago I can be a bit picky about some insignificant facts ,but otherwise........

The Canadian Sam Bass(Brad Piit ) should have had another scene or so because he was an interesting character who really did all he could to help Solomon at the risk of his life even.

Bass met secretly with Solomon on several occasions to craft letters home, wrote many unanswered letters over a period of 3 or 4 months & even offered to travel to New York & personally find any Northup family/friends on his way back to Canada(Bass says he was 'as sick of slavery' & Louisiana as Solomon).

Mistress Shaw(Black Mistress to slaveowning planter)was interesting & important that Patsey had a sympathetic friend, but probably should have given way to another scene for Bass. Although a Black slave Misteress(Mistress Shaw) should have been acknowledged,.

Also it was Henry Northup (father owned Solomon's father & possibly related) & not Cephas Parker who went to La. to deliver Solomon's 'Free Papers'. Hemry Northup went to the Governor of New York for help & various Judges & politicians & then personally took the LONG trip to Louisiana to deliver Solomon's papers.

Solomon looking up & recognizing Henry ; "Henry B Northup! Thank God-Thank God!" & their interraction was a moving part of the book which the film got incorrect for some reason.

I was wanting to see it this weekend but it still isn't in theaters here in Columbia.

I was under the impression that the wide release was going to be on 11/1, but I guess not.

I think it's only a 'wider' release , but not the 'final ' release when it will make it in Theatres everywhere.

I'm not familiar with movie releases so I don't understand this neither.

Maybe around the holidays & the re -release around Oscar time( following Oscar buzz)?

What a great film all the way around. Everyone is great in their roles, and yes Fassbender steals the show. He is hauntingly good in his role. Definite Oscar contender for BSA. Chiwetel is really really good as well. He does a superb job of showing the progression of a free man to a desperate and broken down man throughout the course of his capture .. all the while still retaining a glimmer of hope and human dignity.

There are some very powerful scenes in this film .. many that are quite tough to watch.

Overall McQueen was just artful enough without being overbearing, kept the story moving and sharp, got the most out of all of his actors (save Brad Pitt, who I thought was the weakest of the supporting cas tmembers) .. and the cinematography was beautiful. Without giving anything away, there's one LONG take that is truly mesmerizing and a great piece of filmmaking. I encourage everyone to go see this.

I watched it this afternoon and really enjoyed it. I gave it an 8/10 but may increase it to 9/10 with a second viewing.

Fassbender was awesome in this movie and McQueen showed once again that he's a great director.

Just saw it. I don't think I have ever experienced a theater be as silent as the one I was in tonight when that movie ended. People simply stood up and walked out, saying nothing.
