I have a 3 year old registered yellow male lab, and I'm thinking about breeding him for the first time.

The bitch is 1.5 years old. Is that too young?

Any advice/tips?

It helps if you have a buddy to hold her still.

Once, but my Mom caught me and I was too embarrassed to ever give it another go.

Whoa son. I wouldn't go any younger than say 11 or 12

Am I on the O-T?

I, mistakenly, thought I could get legitimate responses over here.

I'm sorry. It was too easy of a set up...

I always heard to wait until she has finished her first heat, after that you are good to go. Meaning, she's okay to breed during her second heat which happens at about 1.5 years old.

Never labs, but I've impregnated my fair share of sheep.

Yep. When you put her back feet in your boots she won't run off as easily.

Another fella told me if breeding sheep you can walk them to the edge of a cliff and they'll keep trying to back up.

I've never tried this. Ain't no cliffs in Livingston Parish.

Tailgates were invented for this.

I sure like your quick thinking, but admit I never considered looking for an alternative to the cliff.

I am a lab breeder, towards the high dollar pups. Don't do it unless both bitch and sire have hips certified good or excel and both have a negative brusolouses (sp)test. The K9 equivalent to vd.
