I think LSU needed the efforts of both Nick and Les to reach the elite level where our program is housed now.

there is no question this is true. the thing about it is those of us that remember fielding some damn good top 10 teams before archers 2nd year and then go through the destruction of the program during the hallman years witnessed the resurection begin under gerry dinardo. if he would have had better coaches, esp if he had not hired lou tepper i believe dinardo woulld have finished the come back.

i think the perspective people have that have followed LSU since the 50's is a whole lot different than the ones that started following LSU in the 90's. and more accurate as well.

I think the best Dinardo could have done is brought LSU back to the Mac level of "good enough" to be a sometimes spoiler football.

Nick Saban took LSU beyond that, which even coupled with his losses, was like showing the farm boy what Paris is like. Suddenly, LSU fans realized there is an elite football world out there beyond the dismal swamp of mediocrity, and we wanted more of it. Saban left before that would happen, but Les Miles picked up the pieces, and kept that elite world in sight. Even built on what Saban managed, but now I wonder if he isn't letting LSU float back down to a more familiar Mac era level of "good enough" but not great. Not elite.

You sir should just say no to the Miles flavored Kool Aid. I have no idea how you can make such a post as this. What Nick Saban did for LSU was give direction and almost single handedly pushed it into the the upper echelon of college football. He basically turned a Datsun into a Ferrari. With all that said, I'm not one of those who dream of having Saban back in the P&G. That ship has sailed. I would like someone that had a very similar approach. That demanded excellence from his teams, and instilled in them the discipline needed to win NC after NC. I have a feeling had he stayed here, we would have more NC's and be reaping an amount of success on par with Bama.

Oh, dear Lord! Face it. Les is a clown. Has always been a clown, and will always be a clown. I realize he's not going anywhere anytime soon, so let's just enjoy the ride, lower our expectations to third in the SECW, and pray for a Cotton Bowl berth; it's the best we can expect for some time to come.
