This deal is getting worse all the time.

Just my opinion, but should have sold it to WB. They would have at least been patient. You know that thing Jedi are suppose have. Also they had already had Clone Wars and was working with Seth Green on Detours. *sigh* I fear we're going to get something that makes us wish they re-release the prequels.

Seems like a great idea to rush a movie like this.

You guys are going to give yourselves a hernia if you keep having anxiety about every little bit of news that come's out about this.

Disney has a lot riding on a strict schedule. Let's not act like that's not worth some consideration. Abram's and crew may just have to work a little overtime to get VII out on time.

There's been some heavy rumors flying about the delays.

Rumors that Arndt's script was pretty good but Abrams wants to be the "writer and director" and it was a power play by him. And that the script needed to be "dumbed down" considerably for "modern audiences".

All kinds of infighting for power over this thing, etc.

I'm not optimistic at this point.

Not necessarily a bad thing, until Abrams makes a dud, it's hard not to trust him. Even if he is only playing to his ego. Plenty of directors do that successfully.

Now that is worrisome. But I wouldn't call A New Hope complex.

Maybe he's dumbing it down by not talking about Trade Federation politics for 20 minutes? I'm ok with that.

There wasn't much about those movies that wasn't easy to ingest. Inception, Star Wars is not. I'm sure that's what they mean...it doesn't have to be intricate dialogue or plotlines. shite, some of the dialogue in the first six are laughably atrocious.

Also, definitely this:

Sticking to a schedule is not a bad thing, and doesn't have to mean that they are "rushing" to the point of faildom.

No reason why this movie can't be done adn ready to premiere in summer 2015....Lucas took waaaaay too long in post production because of his infatuation with green screen and video game CGI crap. Perhaps this forces the movie to use that stuff sparingly and only when necessary. Probably will make for a better movie

I agree with you, but that still doesn't change my opinion (and I have gone back and forth with myself) that I think that letting a corp. like Disney continue the greatest franchise of all time might have been a mistake considering they're not letting the executive producer and long time Lucas collaborator do her thing. If I was CEO of any studio that employed Kathy Kennedy the first thing I would tell her is: whatever you want, it's yours. Just give me a heads up when you need it or when you're going to do it.

bullcrap. Disney OWNS Star Wars. it belongs to them. Iger is responsible to his shareholders for delivering on his promises to provide them a certain return on their investment. he paid $4B for this property to turn a profit in a reasonable amount of time. he hired people specifically to delivery within a certain timeline. the time for them to tell him they needed more time was during the first meeting when he said the deadline was a Summer '15 release. seems like they all were eager to sign up then.

Their excuses are their own. They are being paid well and will get tons of exposure being a part of this franchise....they need to work harder and cut the BS

Correct me if I am misunderstood, but it seems that the directors don't want to screw this up and need more time to make sure the script etc is right, but the CEO is out to make a buck?

If its a dud then there will be a much smaller audience for the next two. If its awesome you get a much bigger audience, plus all the nuts like myself who want to see it three times in the theater.

With all the money Disney has why turn down the delay?

Taking their sweet arse time doesn't correlate with making a better movie...hell it may result in the movie being much tighter and less fraught with CGI crap by sticking to the original timeline. Its all about execution. they literally have an "A-team" of production pros on this film. no excuse they can't get it done.

Then why haven't they? And why are they having trouble getting people on board for this?

Iger may be wanting to "fulfill" his promises to his shareholders but the one thing you forgot to mention is Iger steps down in 2015. Meaning chances are he couldn't give a shite less about this franchise or where it's going. Since he's been CEO he's basically been buying names that were already built and been trying to focus on technology. Only problem is he's put one of those names 563 million in the hole. If anything it looks like he's pulling a The Producers and taking the money and running.

Can't be worse than the prequel trilogy. Biggest casualty of this sale was the shelving of the live action television show.
