Saw it and enjoyed the movie. But the novel was so good I went in knowing a movie could never match the same emotions in such a condensed time frame. Enders Game is one of the most unique novels I've read.
Read the book. It's pretty damned amazing. The movie is good, too.

Oh, I'll go into a long review once I get to my computer. Seriously though, that movie is the third movie I've wanted to walk out of in my life.
You could do that, or you could channel your rage into more productive posts such as entertaining me by messing with people on Poli Talk.

Hell, I was exposed to it as required reading in a 4000 level international politics class at LSU.
I had this professor too, who was it, I can't remember his name.

its a character driven story in which they didn't spend enough time developing a character.
I didn't read the book but the way it ended the movie would have been better off developing the characters even if they added 30min to the movie.
There was a total disconnect at the ending with him meeting the bug as in his connection with the grief of eliminating the aliens and the sacrifice of life to win the game/ accomplish the mission.(It seems his sister should have had a larger role in the movie)
Also I didn't get the Mazerach(sp?) character in the movie at all and why it was important to hide that he lived.

That is just the main character. There was zero development of any side characters. Also, the Petra relationship stuff was fricking stupid. I knew that was going to happen from the previews though.
quote:One of the dumbest moments was the idiotic argument Graff and Ender had at the end. It contradicts every thing Ender said earlier.

God that movie was an abortion.

I thought about rereading the book before the movie, but I knew I would end up hating the movie if I did that.
Still can't disagree with you Scruffy although I still enjoyed the movie.

I just need to stop going to any movie that is made from a book that I enjoyed.
I never not end up getting burned.
Creative changes to adapt to the new medium don't bother me.
Changes to subject matter that don't make sense (which this film is riddled with) irritate me big time.
But seriously....the fundamental basis of the film requires Ender to be a good guy who is unbelievably brutal when the situation calls for it.
The fight with Stilson and Bonzo were too watered down with Ender playing with kid's gloves in them.
Not to meantion taking out the scene where he broke Bernard's arm and Graff comes back with his "didn't I just tell you that Ender was the best soldier in this group" speech.

This movie kind of sucked. I will not recommend it to any of my friends.

Yeah but we all knew they were going to either remove all of the violence or tone it down. Sucks that they did but not remotely unexpected.

I thought that they would have a hard time successfully converting the book to a movie and I thought they failed. I thought the portrayal of the mind game was too brief and shallow.
My wife liked it. I didn't. I sort of feel that it was geared toward older kids and that's alright. They need their movies too.

Watching the movie today. Never read the book but the kid who is on the front cover here was my friend growing up. Was neighbors with the author so they would draw him while jumping on a trampoline. Author came and spoke with us. Pretty cool when you are in 3rd/4th grade
