PC Help

I built a PC a couple months ago and haven't had any issues playing games until this weekend. I bought Bioshock Infinite on sale, but it's been running like crap on my PC. My graphics card is a Radeon 7800, which I know is not top of the line, but I figured it should handle Infinite. I updated the drivers and ran the benchmark using the Medium setting (after trying all the higher ones too). When I play the game, it's super stuttery and unplayable in combat. I've manually tweaked the settings and still get the same result.
Any tips? Am I forgetting something else to update?

What resolution are you set too? Did you turn off dx11? which 7800? 7870 or 7850? vsync turned off?

Radeon 7870
Intel Core i5-3570 3.4 GHz
8GB RAM
Any other info needed?
I tried a couple different resolutions. The High setting has DX11 turned off. I turned off AA and the Dynamic Light Beams (or whatever it's called) and it ran a little better. I guess I just expected it to run at 60 FPS at 1080p with the High settings. Again, I'm new to playing current PC games and troubleshooting problems. Thanks for the help!

Is it a constant stuttering or just random drops at certain points? Also did you disable vsync?

When I look around it stutters a little, but when I got into combat it was very very choppy. And I believe I disabled vsync at some point, but I think the benchmark turns it back on.
There's an asterisk next to the settings I change, does that mean I need to restart the game for changes to take effect?

I updated the drivers
To which version? Are you running a beta driver with the frame pacing option? If not, install the latest beta.
Before you do that, though, do a FULL removal of existing drivers, every trace of them. And to do that, follow this guide: LINK (Yes, it's a long process, but it's important to rule out the possibility of a corrupt driver installation that leaves behind traces even after you install new drivers)

What FPS are you getting?

I went ahead and did a screenshot of the setting to make sure. I am running a 7870 ghz edition and just played a big action scene at around 80 fps I would say. It was inside so it may drop a bit outside but not a lot in bioshock if I recall. Make sure you have post processing at normal, and lock framerate off first. If you are still having problems I would turn antialiasing off. IF still problems then something is not right.

Wow, thanks for the help guys! I'll test out some of this stuff this weekend.

After making some adjustments it seemed to run fine until I got to the tower when you meet Elizabeth for the first time. It slowed down a lot and barely chugged along. This morning I hooked up my tower to my TV and the game ran super smooth. Cranked up all the settings and still had no slow down. Can my monitor cause slow down and stutter?

Wow, really. That seems really strange.

And now I've hooked it up back to my PC monitor and it's running smoothly at the best settings. Strange indeed. Thanks anyway for the help!

I still think something is up

Could using DVI vs HDMI cause lag? I hooked up my tower to my HDTV with HDMI and it ran smoothly at the highest settings. Then hooked it up to my PC monitor via HDMI and it still runs super smooth. Either way, I'm not experiencing bad stuttering anymore. I still may try ILikeLSUToo's suggestion removing old driver info.
