There is very recent precedent that supports optimism, folks!

Remember last year, when Florida kicked our hapless asses? We looked like shite in all phases. All we got was 2 field goals in the first half and were shut out in the second half.

They kept the ball for 37 minutes to our 22. We had 1 third down conversion out of 13 attempts, while the Gators converted on 7 out of 14.

We had a total of 41 rushing yards to their 176 yards. We turned the ball over to them 3 times!

It was a pathetic performance by the Tigers. We looked like a team that had no chance to compete for any championship.

And, to make matters even more dreadful for woeful Tiger fans, undefeated #3 South Carolina was rolling into town as our next week's opponent.

How could Miles possibly turn that team around in one week? We were gonna get destroyed by Clowney and company.

But what happened? Miles and his Tigers obviously did some serious soul searching, because they had a whole new attitude, and they looked like a completely different team.

The SC game was a 180-degree turnaround. The Tigers totally dominated the highly-touted Gamecocks. We were the team that held the ball for 37 minutes.

LSU ran the ball for 258 yards and held SC to a total of just 34 yards rushing. We converted 11 of 19 third downs, and limited the Gamecocks to just 3 of 13.

LSU doubled SC's total yardage and committed just one turnover in the game, a costly interception of a Mettenburger pass that led to an SC touchdown.

It was a terrific win and a total turnaround from the Tigers' performance just one week prior.

Granted it was in Tiger Stadium, but unlike this year, we had no bye week to regroup and prepare for that next big challenge.

Then, after that great win, our 2012 Tigers went on to lose just one heartbreaker the rest of the season, the crushing last-minute loss to Bama that kept LSU out of the SEC Championship game and cost us our chance at the BCS Title game.

Yeah, we fans were all really down and out after that pathetic loss to the Gators, just a year ago. We saw no reason to believe that Miles and his hapless team could deliver us a respectable season.

But, look what actually happenened. How quickly we fans forget the remarkable turnaround that Miles and his boys delivered, in the face of long odds, just last year.

Never give up on this great coach and his fighting Tigers.

No matter how tough the next opponent seems, the outcome is yet unknown, until the game has been played.
