Forza has many assets that can be reused so it saves time, Drive Club doesn't have that privilege since Evolution Studios chose to create a different type of racing game than they usually create.

Ex: Motor Storm & World Rally Championship series.

Explain the difference then.

How does the PS4's 5 jiggowatts of DURRRR Heavy Duty Ram 4x4 compare to the 3 jigs of DRPEPPR in the One? And how exactly will this difference in hardware affect graphics?

acting stupid because you dont understand the spec difference doesn't make them any closer.

its quite simple really. one has a GPU that is 1.84 teraflops, the other is 1.3(and they admitted 10% was reserved for os/kinect ontop of that). one has gddr5 ram the other ddr3. one has a massive problem with 32mb esram that is struggling to push a 1080p frame buffer.

CoD is 720 on Xbox and 1080 on PS4. also looking like BF4 might be in the same situation. its 720 on xbox but no word on ps4 res yet.

the power difference is real whether you choose to believe it or not but if all your friends are getting xbox or you are a huge halo fan buy that. otherwise the cheaper more powerful and easier to develop for system with many more first party devs is the no brainer.

Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil, has said that there is “no real difference” between next-generation console specifications. “We only need one console,” he said in an interview with Edge magazine, as reported by The Sixth Axis.

From the mouth of an actual developer this week. The specs you quoted are old.

Also, can you provide a link to the 720/1080 stuff? TIA.

Such bullshite.

The One's 10% upclock on the CPU and the GPU upclock still leaves a sizeable gap in terms of overall power.

It's not some Xbox spokesperson, you realize that.

So a game developer says they're almost identical, and you call bullshite?

What are your credentials if you don't mind me asking?

I think the specs are similar enough that it won't matter outside of first party developers.

Oh, I'm not a developer, so I can't comment on hardware differences? Sorry.

Driveclub and?

Edit: I didn't check page 4 before posting this, sorry. Still curious to see if anything else was delayed though.

Nothing else has been delayed. The only other next-gen games have been Watchdogs and The Crew.

You can comment on them, this is America. It's just comical.

A person actually making games for both consoles says they're identical. I'm going out on a limb here, but I think he has a tad bit more insight on the subject than you.

At Quakecon 2013, John Carmack of Id Software (Doom, Quake, Rage) has spoken out about the PS4 and Xbox One, saying that their hardware is “essentially the same.” This comes at an interesting time, as Microsoft has just boosted the Xbox One’s GPU to keep up with the PS4's significantly (~50%) more powerful GPU.

quote:

“It’s almost weird how close they are,” Carmack says of the Xbox One and PS4, which are both equipped with a virtually identical AMD CPU and GPU. ”Whether they converged intentionally, or if they were surprised that they wound up having almost identical specs.”

Our contacts have told us that memory reads on PS4 are 40-50 per cent quicker than Xbox One, and its ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) is around 50 per cent faster. One basic example we were given suggested that without optimisation for either console, a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One. “Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM,” concluded one developer.

This runs in line with reports coming out about the resolution for the One's launch games. COD looking like it's 720p (1080p confirmed for PS4), Ryse is 900p, Killer Instinct is 720p, Forza is actually running 1080p, TitanFall is going to be 720p also. More also coming out that supposedly BF4 is 720p on Xbox One (supposedly higher on PS4, but nothing concrete as of yet on either resolutions).

Johnathon Blow, developer of The Witness:

Just Cause Dev: LINK

quote:

“It’s difficult to say, as it’s still early days when it comes to drivers,” Blomberg said. “With each new driver release, performance increases dramatically in some areas. The PlayStation 4 environment is definitely more mature currently, so Microsoft has some catching up to do. But I’m not too concerned about that as they traditionally have been very good in that area.

“The specs on paper would favor the PS4 over the Xbox One in terms of raw power, but there are many other factors involved so we’ll just have to wait and see a bit longer before making that judgment,” he added.

Obviously this is an older article, so the One's development tools are farther along. And obviously as time goes on they'll be able to more efficiently deal with the ESRAM.

War Thunder developer: LINK

quote:

AY: Well, obviously PlayStation 4 is more powerful than Xbox One.

How much more powerful?

AY: It depends what you’re doing. GPU, like 40 per cent more powerful. DDR5 is basically 50 per cent more powerful than DDR3, but the memory write is bigger on Xbox One so it depends on what you’re doing.

How is that going to translate to on-screen results for the kinds of games you want to make? So to optimise War Thunder on both consoles you could hypothetically make a better, prettier version on PS4?

AY: Yep.

That 50% more powerful is such bullshite. You can't even tell the difference between the two on the comparison video

1. All the links and quotes you used are outdated.

2. The difference in 720p and 1080p is negligible, and most people can't even notice the difference at all.

Notice in all those quotes you hear both things. All of it has to be taken with a grain of salt.

10% CPU uplock which makes the One's clock in at 1.75GHz (PS4 is 1.6) and a 6.6% GPU upclock (853 MHz, was 800 MHz(which is what the PS4's is at) aren't going to make up the difference. The gap isn't going to magically close as time goes on. Both consoles will see improved visuals over time.

There's quite a difference between the two in the amount of pixels that need to be rendered. You're right, most people probably can't tell the difference unless it's explicitly pointed out to them. The One isn't going to have bad looking games by any means; it just isn't as powerful as the PS4.
