What happens if a “win now” team fails to even win half of its games, and eventually misses the playoffs?

quote:

New Orleans’ depth isn’t great, the team won’t have a first round pick next June, and next year’s payroll will feature three players making eight figures a year, with Ryan Anderson not far below that mark. Williams will have to develop a weave of a structure that will attempt to not only get the best out of a former All-Star in Holiday and a former all-around stud with promise in Evans, but raise Gordon’s value so that the team can find solid helpers in the front court.

Projected record: 37-45

quote:

You might have come away from 2012-13 feeling like Anthony Davis’ rookie campaign was kind of a letdown. After all, he was tabbed as a game-changer well before New Orleans lucked up and snagged him with 2012’s No. 1 pick, a 6-foot-10 monster whose wingspan, athleticism and instincts made him a rare defensive prospect and the odds-on favorite to win Rookie of the Year ... and that didn’t happen. (Despite statistical arguments that it should’ve.)

Apparently to our detractors you should either be a championship contender RIGHT NOW or you should be tanking for Andrew Wiggins. There's no in between. No building a foundation. Its be Miami or blow your team up for a shot at Wiggins.

And in Wiggins' case, are all these teams experts are advocating suck for him gonna get to share his services? And are these pundits gonna give the teams that don't win the lottery a pass for being awful for the foreseeable future? Of course not, they'll dump all over those franchises and write columns on how dumb they are.

Also, we just drafted our "Wiggins" last year. And Davis has the potential to have a much bigger impact on win/losses than Wiggins, imo. I like Wiggins a lot, of course. But he's not Lebron. He doesn't have that all around skill set. He's a leaper and a scorer, not a box score filler. Not someone that turns Mo Williams into an all star.

Seems like these guys have a similar level of reasoning as Rasheed Wallace. Name makes sense.

It really is kind of crazy that they fail to consider the youngest team in the league may still have quite a bit of room to grow, as if OKC became OKC overnight. And the way Gordon is playing, if he can stay healthy enough that teams ignore his injury history, Demps has a lot of flexibility in trades. No he doesn't have any bad expirings and draft picks left to use, but that doesn't mean he's firing blanks.

The youngest team in the league is the Cavs (LINK ).

I've been praying for a Gordon trade for over 2 years (I didn't even want him in the initial trade). Honestly, who in there right mind would take on his contract, without NO taking back a horrible contract? I don't see a team in the league doing that.

I hope we keep Gordon and he stays healthy. The guy has been lighting it up and that is the kind of elite player you need to compete with the upper echelon teams. We will not get anyone as good as Gordon in return for him.

I actually agree with you. Our best hope is that he gets healthy and becomes a great player. That is a long shot though..
