Saw one today at local pawn shop with Nikon monarch 4x12x40 priced @ 429.99. I am in the market for a .308 but don't need the scope. What do yall think of this price?

Good price. I own a Savage 30.06 and it shoots very accurate. You wont be disappointed in the rifle. You can always sell the scope or trade it at a gun show

Savage doesnt make pretty guns, but I have a 7mm that is extremely accurate.

Just an FYI the stock on these guns suck. I had one in 223. There weren't any aftermarket stocks available when I had mine so I ditched it. You can buy a new savage axis at academy for $280 + tax.

trim the trigger spring in it by one or 2 coils for better accuracy

I have an axis .308 that I just got a few months back. Just put a new Mueller Tactial Dot scope on it this week and cut 1.5 coils off the trigger spring. About 3-4 lb pull now. It's going to be a sweet shooting little badass pretty soon. That price seems about right or a hair high with the Nikon. You can get them new with the cheapo bushnell for 350.00 I think. Actually, now that I think of it, that price is a bit high. You would do better buying one new without the scope and putting one on it yourself.

The scope is almost worth the asking price. Monarch is near the top of the line for Nikon.

I think he is talking about a ProStaff because I don't believe there is a 4-12x40 Monarch.

It it was a Monarch it may be worth it but the rifle would have to be in pristine condition. I just didn't see any Monarchs that came in 40mm at all. They seem to start at 42mm.

May have been 42 come to think of it. I just knew it wasn't a 50mm
