I killed this buck about 4 years ago. Been sitting in the freezer ever since, because I can't decide what to do with him. Definitely the largest deer i've killed, but not a 'pretty' or symetrical rack by any means.

First, can it still be shoulder mounted after being frozen that long? And, what would the OP do, shoulder/euro/rattle antlers?

Keep in mind, this is the second largest buck taken at my small family lease in 10+ years, so I dont know if i'll see another one for a while.

too assymetrical to spend the money on a shoulder mount, even though its got some nice mass

What condition is the cape in? Has it been in just a garbage sack? If you want it mounted, sure, might have to get another cape though.

If not due to freezer burn or the hair falling out a good taxidermist can get another cape

Yeah it's in a garbage bag. I assume they'll charge extra for a new cape. Guess I need to get it out and examine it more closely.

I had a hog in the freezer for a couple of years in a garbage bag. I finally decided to have him mounted and he looks great.

Best case is get it mounted as is

worst case you need a new cape $100

Definitely do something because the buck has a great story to tell and it is obvious it means something to you.

If you have the money to spend on a shoulder mount then go ahead and do that. Like you said second largest buck in 10+ years. I'd go shoulder mount no doubt.

I think that it would be a really cool skull mount

Personally, I like deer that are not perfectly symmetrical. I like the ones with character. I'd have a shoulder mount done.

Good lookin deer. I would shoulder mount him, and I already 6 on the wall. Take it taxidermist and tell him wassup. Hell check it out and see what he can do. I've had to use 2 capes on mine and my taxidermist didn't charge any extra.

I'd do a euro. But I'm pretty partial to them. It would take a seriously astonishing deer to get me to mount it.

If you would like to kill the biggest deer of your life...get that one mounted...guaranteed! Speaking from experience....got a "questionable" mounted because I figured this is as good as it gets....same year....3X bigger....All about the memories....if it means a lot to you, mount it....If not, Euro it....

After four years in the freezer the cape is trash. Any taxidermist worth his salt should be able to still mount it though with a new cape.

Yeah I called a guy near Shreveport, he said no way the cape is still good after that long. Also wanted 600 bucks to mount/replace it. I had a large deer last year that probably would have worked, but threw it away. Does the new cape have to be real close to the same size, or can they make a smaller deer work?

Definitely leaning towards shoulder mount, because I'm sure i would regret it forever if i didnt. Thanks

The cape size really doesn't matter unless you use a really tiny deer, it's going to look weird. A big doe could probably work.
