I'll admit it: I wouldn't be as upset if it weren't for Bama's success

The loss to UGA and OM, though heartbreaking, really wouldn't sting so much otherwise. (And certain losses in years past)

It's the mental mistakes on the part of coaches and players (probably mostly coaches)

The problem is the 'benchmark' the program has had since '07. We are comparing the LSU football program to one in which perfection is demanded every second of preparation for a game and during a game.

Like most would say, it's not that we lost, it's how we lost. And it's little things like demanding perfection at all times on your assignment, studying your opponent, conditioning, eating right, etc, that make the difference.

I don't know how it gets fixed. Miles admits fault (and he's probably right). I still love Miles; I love LSU and the football team. It just pains me that the level of preparedness and, ultimately, execution does not seem to be at the level of the 'benchmark'. At least not week in and week out.

It's on the coaches period. I am afraid the program is trending down.

Saban coaches against the perfect game, not the opponent at hand. The perfect game does not call for shanked punts up by 48. Miles approaches each game as a fan, enjoys the game, gets lost in it, and realizes there are only 6 sec left and damn I should have called a TO about 20 sec ago. Can't crap the bed when the pressure is on. Saban has done that several times earlier in his career at LSU and BAMA. But he self scouted and has reaped 4 maybe to be 5 NC because of it. Miles has been coaching over 4 decades and still does it. Why is that??

I don't give a frick about Alabama except as an obstacle to achieving LSU's goals. We have to regularly beat Alabama on the field and in recruiting if we are to win titles. That's just an unavoidable fact.

I don't think it's trending down this is pretty much par for the course for les miles . He is no Saban never will be .. Miles usuallly has about 2-3 losses minus the 2011 season which based upon law of averages should come around about every 4-5 years . Not bad not bama level but not bad . I don't see a trend down just les being les . He will appease most of the fan base but knowing lsu's potential it's not where we should be. We should be at bama's level . Not really bitching bc honestly I don't think we could find a coach that can do much better IMO

Do you think making their own schedule has anything to do with their success?

Diggy agree 100 percent . That's the difference between a great coach and joe fan coach . Miles is the classic fan coach if I ever seen one . A little dumber and more goofy

I'm not really sure I see your point exactly.

I believe that LSU/Miles do a great job of playing in bigger games, and I have little doubt they'll play bama tough.

It's the other games, the 50/50 games or the games that ought to be won handily. I mean, if LSU beats bama, that's great; but if the egg is laid 2-3 times per year it really doesn't matter.

that is my point with regards to demanding perfection always.

It is very obvious that this is the real cause of the angst among the LSU fanbase.

I agree with your general ideological point. The program should be run with greater dicipline, focus, professionalism, exacting intensity, intelligence, etc. That's how championships are consistently won.

But in my view, that general point doesn't hinge on Bama's success or lack thereof. That point is true at all times in all circumstances, regardless of Bama's record. Because if it isn't Bama in any given year, it will be Auburn (2010), or Florida (2006/2008), or UGA, or TAMU, or whoever we play in the SECCG, or whoever we play in the national championship. There will always be a great team to overcome. Bama is just another obstacle to hurdle like any other. And as you say, the only way to regularly leap all of the hurdles is through brilliant, rigorous coaching and program management.

I have to say: I wish I could take a look at the daily agenda of various coaches around the SEC and college footbal as a whole.

I'd just like to compare how efficient each coach really is with their time because I believe that translates to the team and their own efficiency

Hate BAMA with a passion. Really respect their current coach and am a big fan of his. I admire anyone who is the best at what they do and hate finishing not first as much as I do. He made MANY mistakes as a younger coach but self scouted and is now one of the best to ever coach the college game in an era when competitiveness is as high as it has ever been. Miles also made many mistakes as a younger coach, yet in his umpteenth year at his craft still has time management issues, as do a few other seasoned coaches. I am a Saban fan, and anyone who would not take him back here in a second right now based on coaching ability alone is kidding themselves. Miles ex LSU players have said on social media things like "another wasted year under Miles". Would they say that about Saban? A lot of players had probably grown tired of Saban at the end of his LSU tenure but at BAMA is that the case?? He has learned from mistakes and grown as a coach. Can you say the same for Miles??
