Little ol BR on the map.

The Cast of Chopped Hands Out the Award for Best Bloody Mary in America

When it comes to judging a competition, there’s no better group of discerning taste-testers to turn to than the cast of Chopped. At this Sunday’s Absolut Best Bloody Mary Brunch during the New York City Wine & Food Festival, the cast of Chopped gathered to host an elegant sit-down event, which featured food stations manned by former Chopped competitors and drink stations run by the eight finalists in Thrillist’s Search for America’s Best Bloody Mary, sponsored by Absolut Vodka. Attendees voted for the best bloody Mary and the Chopped cast picked three winners: best dressed, most creative and most original/exotic.

The big award of the day went to Kristin Alfandre from Mason’s Grill in Baton Rouge, La., wining a trip to serve at next year’s South Beach Wine &Food Festival in Miama, Fl. Her drink, called the Bloody Mason (Burn Baby, Burn!) used the classic Bloody Mary mix with Absolut Peppar vodka, horseradish, Sriracha, lemon, lime and Tabasco and Worcestershire sauces. Toppings included bacon, beef jerky straw, celery, okra, cocktail onions and a green bean.

Should've served it with a Cajun Shrimp Burger and it would've won best hangover cure ever too.

Eh. I've had it. It's okay, but I've had better bloodys. Just off the top of my head, Boucherie's is better.

They are really good. I think being able to choose your own ingredients helps. Tons of options. And they really do know how to make them well.

I like me some Mason's

I've had better as well, but it is a pretty good bloody mary.

Regardless, a cool thing to win.

I've never had their bloody but the CSB is pretty fricking good.

I went for brunch once and they handed me a Bloody menu with about 30 different options for them. Usually when I'm drinking bloody's my mind isn't right and I'm indecisive. In other words....Don't bring me a menu just bring me a fricking bloody quick like.

Like Bully's or Frank's. Just hand it to me already. It's not an event. It's medicine.

I feel the same. I wonder if I can just order the "bloody mason" like the one that won?

I love it this way as do most people that drink bloodys around here, and apparently the judges do too.

A good dose of horseradish makes the drink.

wait, so did they win "best bloody mary" based off of getting to chose from dozens of ingredients to put in there? if so that's bullshite. you should pick the place that has one set recipe and does it very well.

No, they presented their "bloody mason" to the judges. Ingredients were listed in link. I guess you have to ask for it??

Nope and nope. Tabasco is too vinegary...and not a fan of horseradish in them.

Glass of ice
Worcestershire Sauce
Celery salt
Louisiana or Crystal hot sauce
Pepper

Vodka on top of that to dissolve ingredients then V8.

Shake, then a couple dashes of salt and a squeeze of lemon. Garnish with celery.
