A scrap metal place is going to give you less money than a place that buys brass to ultimately be reloaded.

these casings won't be re-loadable. Im looking at about 22,000 lbs of 105mm spent casings.

Good luck with that. I would imagine that 105MM casings are probably already taken care of with a government contract. I know that rifle brass is collected and recycled from Army and Marine bases.

I would imagine a scrap metal place would give you a better deal if you are bringing 22K lbs. of brass than they give me when I show up with a couple of 55 gallon trashbags full of aluminum cans and some stripped copper wire.

the scrap yard near me won't take spent casings. They say it's too risky because of the primers.

This and a empty casing weights about 5 lbs.

Wick, I don't think there are enough army surplus stores in the south to sell 11 tons of spent artillery shells.

If try eBay.

They have to be mutilated to a point where they can't be used anymore. again, they won't be able to sell them as casings. probably just scrap. but do gun guys buy scrap brass to remake casings or does it just need to go to the scrap yard?

No, unless you're really set up.

As others have said, if you win the auction, title doesn't pass to you until the brass is demilled. That means it is your responsibility to render it into an unusable state. That's gonna cost money.

And if you are dealing with GovLiquidation, be advised that you will pay upfront and if you default on the terms of the contract, you will be SOL.
