Flexible Pricing, Tradition Fund Increase Incoming?

LSU PR:

quote:

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Athletic Department will seek to implement a flexible pricing plan for home football games as well as proposing an increase in the Tradition Fund for the first time since 2010 in certain areas of Tiger Stadium beginning next season.

The proposal to raise prices for the 2014 football season will be sent to the LSU Board of Supervisors on Friday and it also includes a plan to increase the Tradition Fund for tickets and parking for the 2015 baseball season. LSU hasn’t proposed an increase in tickets or parking for baseball since 2009.

“This is the first time since 2010 that we have sought a price increase for football,” LSU Vice-Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said. “This increase is necessary for us to stay competitive at the highest level of collegiate athletics, but also because of the rising costs of doing business on a daily basis.”

The proposal also calls for a six percent increase in season ticket prices from the previous season as well as an increase to the Tradition Fund for reserved parking on campus for both cars and RVs. The proposed parking plan will see 49% of the parking prices remain at its current level. LSU hasn’t proposed an increase in reserved parking on campus for football since 2007.

Under the Tradition Fund proposal for football, no section in the stadium will increase more than $100 and over 11,000 seats will not be subjected to the increase in donation. The plan will also see the pricing structure for Tiger Stadium adjusted to allow for more flexibility in future pricing based on seat location and demand.

As for the flexible pricing plan, the athletic department is seeking approval to price tickets based on opponent and the date of the game.

In baseball, the proposal calls for 1,700 of the seats in Alex Box Stadium to have a reduced donation while another 2,500 seats (29%) will either have donation levels reduced or will pay no donation at all.

EDIT 6pm 10/17/13:
LSU PR sent a corrected release with the final sentence changed.

People will bitch but it's a necessary evil to stay competitive. LSU is still one of the lowest priced tickets in the SEC. You can't have 1992 prices and expect 2013 results.

Yeah. They could stop putting plaques all over the place that no one really cares to see.

They must waste a lot of money.

Maybe just name each seat "The Moran Family Seat". How privileged we all are to be surrounded by such generosity.

That's going to be a hard sell to the football fans that already don't go to the games. Add the shitty home schedule next season, and there will be quite a few people not renewing their seats.

LSU don't really care about asses in the seats. All they care about is paid attendance. The ticket will continue to get gobbled up no matter what the price is.

And those will be sold to others willing to pay. No biggie.

Might actually be a good thing to weed out some of those in the high priced seats that never come to the games. Get people on the waiting lists that actually want to be there every week.

I'm all for LSU raising the prices to keep up with the top tier of athletics in the nation, but 2014 is a bad time to do it. The home slate in 2014 is not something that a lot of fans will look at & say "Yep, I think it's totally worth it to pay more for this caliber of home scheduling"

Price increases in 2015 would be a lot more palatable.

I have no qualms about paying usurious amounts of money for LSU football...so long as I get to witness periodic national championships.

This is the biggest complaint I have. All of our best OOC games are neutral site.

I'll take 2003 prices with 2003 results.

That's risky considering that LSU has reached the saturation point (or near it) of whether it is worth it to even go to the game for fans after they have purchased the tickets.

Along with adding 10k more seats.

They should add in some places and take away in others. The asinine game day parking on campus (not reserved parking) needs to go away. Also, if you're asking me for more money (I have baseball and football season tickets), that's fine, but please use some of the extra money to offset taking down the ads that literally take up 2/3 of the scoreboard in TS.

So the Furmans and Townsends will now cost 25 cents a game right?

Takes a lot a gall to raise prices considering what next year's home slate looks like. But yea keep fricking scheduling neutral site games. TS isnt empty enough for ya?

How in the hell is this supposed to help out the season ticket holders?

Because now your 1000 will be broken down into:

Alabama $800
Ole Miss $100
Kentucky $50
Mississippi $50
Sam Houston St Free
Louisiana Monroe Free
New Mexico St Free

See how that helps!
