Where in my post did I say Manziel is a better pro prospect?

You didn't but you said Duck fans are biased idiots. I got the same response about Dion Jordan being Mingo's equivalent. We are only biased because Mariota is on our team in your mind. However, we watch Mariota and Manziel. A lot of SEC fans look at stat sheets and base their conclusions on a developed assumption that Oregon qbs are system qbs.

It's true, and actually I should have said "without the wild improvisational runs *AND* heaving up jump-balls."

But keep in mind our program heavily recruited both of these kids, and as such I've taken a serious interest in Manziel over the years.

You had Jerrard Randall in the same class and he (at the time) was the better prospect.

Manziel is definitely one of the better playmakers we've seen in college football. I think Mariota is the better all around QB, and runs the system he's in much better though. JM is more of freelance type of player.

When Mariota gets drafted ahead of Manziel, this bookmarked post will be fun.

So when cheating chip has the 1st or 2nd pick he will pick mariota. That is what you really wanted to say.

I don't think the staff at Oregon had Randall ahead of Mariota towards the end of his recruitment.

Chip won't have the first or second pick.

...just like Mingo would get drafted in front of Jordan.

I take issue with the idea that Randall was the better prospect (than either Manziel or Mariota) but with that said I don't really see what that has to do with anything.

And this talk of the "system" Mariota operates is absurd. If you go back and watch his play since he became Oregon's starter, you'll see plenty of NFL throws, and throws to receivers who are sandwiched by DBs. The guy is a great quarterback, period.

I can only conclude from stuff like this that you're paying absolutely no attention to what draftniks are saying about Mariota. When he does come out, Chip will be far from the only coach interested.

It was my understanding they did. Things just took a much different turn.

Mariota is as good as any QB playing right now. He could play for anyone and be highly effective.

The difference, Mariota has only played a full game, once this season. But yea, Manziel is vastly superior

I think Mariota only played like 2 or 3 fourth quarters all last season and didn't play like 2 or 3 2nd halfs. Dude could have easily beat Manziel's numbers.

Just going to throw this out there.....

Haven't we seen that when Oregon plays elite schools that their great QB's come down to earth? I'm not saying he's not a good QB, but he's playing in the PAC12. It is what it is.

I don't know what kind of prospect Manziel is - wouldn't surprise me if he isn't a big time prospect because that's based on pinpoint accuracy, which I don't watch close enough to judge - but he's the best college QB I've seen in a long time, perhaps ever.

My understanding is that we really cooled on him. He was having trouble qualifying academically and he got in trouble during his senior season. Helfrich has detailed his recruitment of Mariota and he blew up his senior year.
