Because of the success of LSU, it is almost as if Tiger fans expect a blowout in every game except Alabama and the occasional SEC opponent like Georgia or A&M.

This is spot on. I also think that our fans aren't sure how to react with this defense. Everyone seems to be holding their breath and when something good happens its as if "finally, what took you so long?"

i agree with much of that. but i went to LSU in another decade and pretty much think we were better students then so my opinion isn't really valued by the young 'uns.

Every generation thinks this about themselves. The school has been more tough on the student section since 2007 when they started the 'Gamecocks' chant and CBS wasn't able to edit it on live tv. I was at LSU during this time, and remember the band not being able to play certain songs because of vulgarity. I feel like ever since this event the student section has never really recovered and gotten cool with the band if you will.

Blame it on whoever you want, but the entire student section is not to blame.

Edit: It got so bad late in the 2007 season, that Les even pleaded with the students to not blame the band for missing chants. It helped but not a lot.

I kige part 2&3, but not 1. He's right about the chants and expectations. Most of the people who disagree cant understand because they aren't/weren't students at LSU.

well first off, it was the older MSU fan that threw the first punch, when he was unprovoked.... just saying

Still makes both schools look bad. Successful people don't get in fights at entertainment events.

I agree, but no one is going to take an unprovoked punch to the face and not retaliate

STTDB
this started when I was a student and I thought it was stupid then

But at the same time, we've chanted "frick you Tebow" and "O-E-O... you suck, Cocks" (which was hilarious IMO when it started for the USCe game but after that it was not)

I sure hope people don't say "Go to hell Ole Miss" this weekend. That's the kind of classlessness that doesn't need to be showcased to other fan bases.

that last part's a shame. the symbiotic relationship btwn the SS and band was one of my favorite parts about being in the SS during games.

I want to apologize for the behavior of students so far this year. After going to Starkville and witnessing a fight between our students and some of their older fans, I was truly embarassed. Combine that with the F-you Florida/Auburn/whoever chants and STTDB, it's pretty hard to get fired up. Personally I'm so embarassed of these chants and I refuse to yell along with them. The Geaux Tigers chant and other chants that are such classics are done so quickly and rushed that they don't sound good at all any more. I'm ready for the student section to be rocking again and for the entire stadium to follow suit. Enough of the vulgar chants and drunken slurs at the opponent, let's get in their heads with an absolute roar on every down. The only reason I can give for student's leaving early is for the non-SEC games where we have to sit for 2 and a half hours before the game just to get a seat. For Florida, however, there's no excuse. I may be one of the few who gets embarassed by vulgar chants and shows up early for the games, but we aren't all just dumb college kids who don't know better.

Someone gets it.

You are not the only one who is embarrassed. Too bad others are not ashamed. I agree with you about LSU "faithful" taking things for granted, but it has all gone corporate. LSU is, after all, a corporation. And as Mitt Romney would say, corporations are people too...

Agreed with your first two points, but hell, be immature and do the chants. You are only a student once so take advantage of the chants.

As for student behavior, that is a completely different thing. If someone is being a jackass, I won't defend them at all.
