According to Matthew Futterman and Shalini Ramachandran of the Wall Street Journal, the NFL is considering adding more Thursday night games to its current slate of 13 televised by NFL Network. Per the report, the league could stage some Thursday night doubleheaders, with games being televised on networks other than the league-owned broadcast operation.

I don't know why they don't just play games on Friday. Three days is not enough time to prepare for a game and it really affects the quality of play. I can't remember the last time there was a really good NFL game on Thursday night.

I don't have a problem with this only if they could make sure that any team playing on Thursday night had a bye week the week before and then won't play again until the next weekend.

3-4 days of rest simply isn't enough.

At this point any outlandish idea you can come up with is probably not to far from an idea on Goodell's desk right now.

I suggested that when Goodell is done, we could have some lesser Super Bowl or some playoff losers bracket played on the weekend before the Super Bowl between the conference losers. Some guys said that was too outlandsih.

Is it crazier than say a NFL team in London, removing kickoffs, International Super Bowl games?

You could literally throw at a dart board and stumble across the next NFL idea.

doesn't the home team win the overwhelming majority of these games as well?

I am not positive but I think Friday is the worst night in terms of television ratings.

It's all about the safety guys.

More games on 3 days rest, more total games when the league goes to 18 games.

The NFL aspires to be the Sunbelt Conference.
I'm not sure I can take anymore bad football during my work week. Mid majors are exceeding my quota already.

personally though I would rather them to what they did last week having a late night Sunday game. it was cool seeing a Sunday night double header.

with several teams being on the west coast, they could easily do it every week.

What better way can the NFL show that they care for player safety than add MORE games on Thursdays

Well the current crop of Thursday night games are just so good, I can imagine adding even more is just a no brainer.

I can't wait until Goodell unveils "The Gauntlet", where one lucky team plays at 12 P on Sunday, flies to play the very next night on the road and back home for Thursday, followed by a three week bye.

Ratings gold!

You have to go all the way back to week 6 of the 2013 season - Bears vs Giants.

Boldin is right.

There's a reason the games are terrible. Just terrible. It's like JV NFL.

Short turnaround creates a bad product.

Even one Thursday night game is worse than anything the Saints did during the entire "bountygate" scandal. Goodell is evil.

Goodell and the NFL only preach about player safety when it is convenient for them and they are being under fire for it.

yet they turn right around and justify letting teams play on 3 days rest.

there can be some good games from time-to-time.

but the allure to them just isn't the same to me.

I still haven't really gotten into it.

NFL Sundays are the best, plus I think by adding Thursday night games it may have effected the Monday Night Football games.

most of the matchups on there now just aren't that good. I realize Sunday Night is king but there was a time when Monday Night Football had some bad arse games.
